RE: Ubuntu Touch User Manual
hey there, @hankschwie did an overhaul of the Ubuntu Touch article at ubuntuuser.de (https://wiki.ubuntuusers.de/Ubuntu_Touch/) i think an comprehensive how to could be key to push UT more towards wide use in it-unexperienced users circels, so i think this article (german) is a good start to work on something (how to, press kit, manual,..) "everyone" could understand/work with. i plan to translate this article into english, but still have to figure out, how to do it smart, e.g. not as a txt file

Phone vendor shiftphone (potential to team up with UT)
hey there, i just bumped into shiftphone, as i maybe could get my hands on an old one for 30 EUR. so i wondered, if there is anything going on, to get in contact with them? i found this (maschine translated) on the website of shiftphone:
Alternative operating systems: In principle, we allow any software modification on your SHIFTPHONE without loss of guarantee. Unless you make changes that damage the hardware (e.g. by overclocking). The upcoming SHIFT6mq in particular is designed to be able to use operating systems other than Android. On older devices (SHIFT4, SHIFT5, except SHIFT5me) there will probably be no alternative operating systems.
We offer various developer communities extensive custom ROM support to test their operating systems on our devices and make any necessary adjustments. However, we must not advertise that other operating systems can also be installed on our SHIFTPHONES. You will get more information. but from the community of your favorite operating system.
Does anyone know, why this (bold part) is?
Is there already been a contact to the company shiftphone? EDIT: according to @flohack no, but @flohack will write an email to them -

@Profetik777 is anybody here working on press kit or can provide a template?

RE: Clear instructions for the uninitiated?
@Flohack ok, i will start reading everything and work my way into weblate.
before i can start contributing i first have to understand, how you work here.. in the internetin the projects i worked, i always dreamed about a well organised information sytem, but it was all more "physical world related" (building/maintaining a chicken keeping system, organising logistics of food distribution,..) and the people were not very used to using a computer, so we went with a mailing list, an ether-pad and a cloud storage.
it will take me some time to understand github, gitlab and weblate. i will get back, when i have questions.

RE: Clear instructions for the uninitiated?
@Flohack i am interested in technical writing! if you would tell me where to start, i could work my way into it. i think i am quite good in explaining non technical people (for example my grandma) technical stuff..
So what exactly does technical writing and documentation mean in this case and what would be a first little mission to get into it?

RE: Welcome to the UBports community! Introduce yourself here!
hi, my name is max (commisde) i have a german passport and mostly live in east of germany. BSc food science. i use ubuntu and UT on a nexus 4 (daily driver) since 2 weeks.
i have very little programming experience (turbo pascal in school, script kiddie use of an instagram bot, some terminal stuff in ubuntu, colobot) but like logical thinking and working, so i have the feeling, i can understand the idea of how programs work.
i am a little fed up with how smartphone technology in society is used atm and want to contribute to the potential of it for good.
