  • RE: vpn setup for protonvpn

@pauls Have you tried to follow the UBports Proton VPN settings blog? link text

The easiest way is to follow screenshots. Verify you are not connected to vpn on other device using free plan. It works only for one device. Sometimes the connection persist on other devices even you think you have canceled the connection.

Did you asked at Proton for the necessary cert file?

  • RE: Meizu MX4 problem with update to Ubuntu 16 or android

@Sandro , try first the command advocatux recommended. open your Terminal on the phone and insert the command. Since you have UT already running it is the easiest way.

Tell us how did it went, we will try to help you with the adb, if it does not works. But first try sudo system-image-cli --switch 16.04/stable

    Please tell us:
did you install from OpenStore on your UT the Terminal app?
what is your OS you have on your laptop?
was it you? who installed UT on the MX4?
we need to know more about your experience to help with the steps to follow!

  • RE: UB Touch and privacy/security

Hi, there are several points you should realize:

Ubuntu Touch OS is build with the VISION to help you get back control about your digital life rights. There are two blobs that make this difficult to reach:

    proprietary hardware
    proprietary software

The problem of proprietary software especially with facebook business model is they track you using browser and even more using their native apps. The only way how to avoid today any tracking would be not to use internet at all, but there is still one issue, the rest of the society and your loved ones do so.

The second option is to leave minimum surfing trace. Using the right hardware and software and especially conduct precautions! as described in blogs.

Using the HTML, or standard web app in Ubuntu Touch you leave less trace, they cannot see what else you are doing, looking at, talking to, ... etc. These apps are under confinement environment. This means they do not have out-access of the confinement and if so, than only to confinement content hub, when you temporarily allow it: to upload some file, image. Once done, the access is closed again, and the cache deleted. As you see, this is a completely different approach compared to the android model.

Once logged in social service, like the one you ask about, they still can see what you think, write, who are your friends, where you work, live, what would you like to buy, who do you love and who not, what do you read, ... all that because you are using their service and sharing, talking about it there. But with UT they do not see where you are, cannot extract anything from your device, unless you explicitly allow it, like the GPS, ... but even there still the confinement model is active.

Also before anything, check, verify the downloaded app is confined and also what are app permissions granted by the app developer. Sometimes it is better to use the browser directly instead.

In that case have generally always also activated the adblocks, do not tracking protocols whenever you are using any browser, and also have firewall activated, do not accept GPS access using social services ...

In the end the best would be to stop using such services as they can really compromise you and ugly impact your and your loved ones entire future life: perhaps having problems at your job because of any of your even of fun made society views and comments.

    Best regards. milkor73

  • RE: Dekko2 Developer Community Thread

@libremax I am using also for sending, I have the standard problem that it does not pick up the e-mail from contacts and than to send an e-mail I have to play rotating the screen.

Also if I want to answer some e-mail it is better to do it from the incoming list (swiping from right and selecting the action to be done) than clicking on reply when inside of the e-mail. This way it works perfect, the e-mails are queued and sent.

Also now with the suru-dark theme I have set with Ubuntu Tweek tool app I notice I can not read well the insert e-mail cells as they are very blank, white.

Thanks for all the done work and improvements, and happy Dan Chapmann is slowly back. My best regards for all of you.

Hi Ubports A-Team, would it be possible to have a snap installer also for 32 bit architecture? Many of us have still this "old" machines. Xenial will be supported for 32 bit as we know until 2021. Thanks for feedback. @milkor73

  • Network indicator broken after flashing from Canonical

"I completed my transition to Ubports this morning by restoring from the backup on my SD card to my M10. Unfortunately it copied something in the file system from my imperfect Canonical image whereby the network indicator is broken, I just see "indicator-network" and the tiny gear settings logo on it. Going to WiFi under System Settings just shows prior Wi-Fi networks and no ability to connect."

Asking at Telegram Supergroub the solution provided by the community is that has to be removed the lock file on ~/.config/connectivity-service: with the command: rm config.ini.lock

What basically is happening is that the indicator thinks another instance is already running, and does not start.

  • RE: need antivirus, antispyware, and a firewall

Hi, for desktop antivirus not needed as Linux is based on modular architecture. You can receive virus pherhaps with some attachment but it will not do nothing. He can not install by his own self. You would have to allow as a root and it would have to be designed for Linux. It is also important to download apps only from official App Store and update when available new patches.
Regarding firewall, yes it is implemented, you just have to activate it by a command in terminal or download the ufw app from the app center and activate it. And of course the best protection is also to think before you do something unusual. Especially connected to public WiFi, ...
For more accurate details visit Ubuntu support or wiki page: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/

Regarding Antivirus app for Ubuntu Touch for smartphones, I am not convinced it does something, if it is not more like some spy app. I do not recommend installing that.
