we NEED this!!! ....or something like it
pretty self explanatory we need something like rom kitchen
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/kitchen-android-kitchen-v0-224-linux-mac-windows.633246/
more devices=more people=more development=less load on existing developers=a better operating system

RE: any way to change desktop environment?
@kugiigi lol true i could ....but i wont....for some reason im totally obsessed with UT (prob all the years i wanted a UT device)
....basically i look at it like this ....this is the platform i have chosen so what i will do is go long term once i master the dev cycle (like i did with android) i will just create the functionality i want
see part of the fun also is the feed back
Also i have to point out ...why even have libertine if not for power users?(i mean yeah i know its usefull for general use)
Its so close to being every devs nerd dream power pocket pc phone
~according to my beliefs i must remain a broken record on this ....even tho it might not have any real world effect lol

RE: Few thoughts regarding coming back after several years
@Moem thanks man i appriciate that .....also as much as i might complain .....the UT community is filled with such wonderful people as yourself .....i cant walk away from that

specific halium code base just for us community members?
a few weeks or about a month ago me and a buddy tried porting halium to a random device and we found it was chock full of missing links and libraries outdated in the end we had to give up
so my question is can we the community please get a updated code base that just works when trying to follow the guides ....or is there one already?

RE: trying to build UT miatoll (need advice and direction)
i will say though UT in its current form would make a excellent government phone or any business that need security as a priority

RE: trying to build UT miatoll (need advice and direction)
also im not a real big fan of clickable i see the draw .....but what of all those wonderful .deb/snap/flatpak/docker files out there?

RE: trying to build UT miatoll (need advice and direction)
and to be fair iv only used UT on a xaiomi redmi note 9 pro so i only understand UT from that angle

RE: trying to build UT miatoll (need advice and direction)
the final straw for me was the simple lack of pip and the inability to install it .....as a DEVELOPER it annoyed me to no end .... some of us are poor and need to dev on our phones someone on here awhile back said something to the effect of "we have to be careful about space usage" as a reason for excluding pip .....we now live in the age of TB sdcards .... 48 mb will not break the camels back ....lol i like to think my complaining is is the litmus of "why" UT is having issues personally i think if the UT project keeps on the current trajectory it should have a name change while it may have use a linux kernel it does not behave like linux/ubuntu.......but on a positive note UT interface is way better than droidians its less buggy and more responsive and seems to have opengl and gles more in a better place please take note my complaining isnt to disparage ubuntu touch but to inspire a slight change in direction of the project for the betterment of the project i see so much potential that isnt being tapped based on ideas of security that basically locks out larger scale improvement edit: also i could never not once get libertine to work even remotely successful

RE: trying to build UT miatoll (need advice and direction)
its in my opinion the locked down and nature of ubuntu touch is and will ultimately kill the project i hope not of course but after hanging around the droidian and UT communities it becomes apparent .....someone posted "bringing more devs to UT" and my very statement comes to mind .......my only hope is that UT gets updated to behave more like linux with permissions set set like normal desktop ubuntu ....my main reason for wanting to build UT was to change this behavior on my own but droidian beat me to it i guess

RE: trying to build UT miatoll (need advice and direction)
to be blunt the reason i havent totally abandoned UT is the community fact of the matter droidian is what i have been wanting the whole time ......all you all are basically to awesome to just abandon
-
RE: trying to build UT miatoll (need advice and direction)
@beyolf i have not had any success as a matter of fact i moved to droidian because everything i find to build halium and UT i simply could not get to work i have not totally abandoned UT however i need more experience so im utilizing the linuxness of droidian to learn ....my biggest gripe about UT is well you cant really do anything on the actual platform itself and most attempts at workarounds will leave you in a boot loop ......also i only have a orange pi 5 to work with and my phone itself and a super ancient laptop (which is so slow i only use it for flashing and takes FOREVER)
-
RE: sudo mount -o remount,rw,default / not working?
@marlboro50 once i learn how to build UT im going to fork it and make a power user version for those interested

is there another repo for the build tools?
the repo server for the build tools are down or am i in the wrong place? also looking for arm64 equivalency if i can figure out how to build this on a orange pi 5 i can prob take over for maintainer for the xaiomi redmi note 9 pro....maybe
