    • Last Effort: BQ Aqarius M10 HD

      Hello Forum:

      I bought the BQ Aquarius back in 2016...

      An age has passed.

      This is my last effort for getting it to do anything useful before I recycle it.

      The last think I remember was installing an Ubuntu opperating system on it as recommended by the forum.

      However, it doesn't seem to even boot now. I'm recharging it to see if it will.

      Please let me know if I should try again or just chuck the device.

      THanks,
      Daryl

    • BQ Aquarius M10 FHD that had Ubuntu 16.04 won't boot

      Hello UBportors:

      I have a BQ Aquarius M10 FHD.... and had communicated with this forum sometime within the last year or so.

      I was advised to update tye OS to Ubuntu 16.04 (or something like that), so I did it.

      I played with the trablet for a while, tinckered with a few files to get a VPN working... and have up. Perhaps I screwed things up

      Then got busy with several other projects, but now I've come back to play with the tablet again. My goal is to get it to read epub books... that's all.

      I have fully charged tablet.

      When I try to boot it up, it gets as far as the Ubuntu Touch screen... and then goes black... maybe it turns itself off.

      What should I do? How can I get it to boot again? Should I reload 16.04? I forgot how to do that.

      Please advise me!

      @Craig Hi Craig:
      I typed the 4 lines separately, and then tried sudo openvpn us_atlanta.ovpn

      Got the error message: Error opening configuratin file: us_atlanta.ovpn

      .... us_atlanta.ovpn is definately in the directory I issued the commands in.

      @Ian HI Ian:
      I installed UT Tweek tool. There was no "System" on the left.

      Me so sad. This would have been a great solution.

    • RE: Private Internet Access App

      @UKPhil Hello Friends: I tried Unisuperbox's method for adding PIA vpn this morning.... and was rather DISTRESSED by a WARNING MESSAGE I revieved with I tried to turn the PIA VPN on from system settings.

      Specifically, the warning says:

      "**This VPN is set up, but when you use it:

      Your WIF-VI/mobile provier can see when and how much you use the internet, but not what for.

      The VPN provider can see or modify your internet traffic.

      Web sites nd other service proiders can still monitory your use.**"

      While it is true that my chronilogical age is "older than Methusula," I'm sort of naive about alot of things.... but this on really stuck in my craw!!!

      Lookey here, 'all: Ain't some of the reasons why y'all use a VPN so that we can avoid this sort of stuff???

      Golly. I'm stumped.

      What exactly does ths message mean other than what it explicity says? Will tHIS VPN set up let me surf on my tablet safely and really privately?

      Please advise!

      @arubislander Hi Arubislander!

      Thanks for your reply! I'll give it the "old college try" and see if SD cards that are larger than 64GB can be used.... and I'll report back.... may take a few days.
      Take care,

      @Craig I tried the methods you recommend that are at https://helpdesk.privateinternetaccess.com/kb/articles/linux-setting-up-manual-openvpn-connection-through-the-terminal

      ... I ran into a problem: my phablet is a read-only file system and even if I use sudo I can't get anything downloaded or unzipped in /etc/openvpn

      Can you suggest a solution, please?

      Thanks, Darly

      @wgarcia Hi wgarcia: thanks for this post... that I've found finally... 23 days later. I am very grateful for your work and will study it closely, try it out, and report to the group what works. I can say that the openvpn thing with PIA works on all of my raspberry pis. Not sure if thats relevant, but I thought I'd just offer it. Here on the forum just to establish that it works for something.

    • RE: Apps for reading pdfs and epubs

      @ian Well, I'd say that it is about a tie between the 3 epub readers, and I'll never be able to read Aesop's Tales on my beautiful Ubuntu tablet.

      That's ok.

      The pdf readers works well enough, and the browser works well enough to read the news papers.

      Really unfortunate that there is no realistic way a craven idiot who only knows ho to toggle the on/off switch can't surf privately. All I wanna do is read the news.

      WIthout a VPN, I know enough that I may as well post my password files on twitter.

      That rots, and limits what I dare to do.

      I like my privacy.

      @mrt10001 Seems ok for a shorter pdf (eg 15 pages). I will learn to be patient with larger pdf (eg 50+ pages).

      The tablet show the pdfs are remarkable crisp and beautifull!!!

      @ian Hi Ian:

      Thanks for your reply.

      I instlled EPubviewer an tapped my way over to the SD card where all of my epub files are located.... and chose one of them... (there may be as many as 75 or more epubs and pdfs on the SD card).

      Next a window popped up that says "Transfer in Progress" ... with a blue circle that spins.

      ... and its been spinning a while, with no obvious end in sight.... and the epub I selected is not popping up.

      Did I do something wrong?

      Hi UBport People:

      I'm new with the tablet, and just upgraded to 16.04 after leaving my tablet in a closet for a few many years.

      Please advise me on the apps I should install (or are installed0 to

      • read pdfs, and

    • RE: SD card Access

      @ian Thanks, Ian. I appreciate your advice. I realized that the device does not like 64gb sd cards. When I inserted a 32gb SD card, it recognized the card, and allowed me to format it.

      How do I mark this query as "Solved"?

    • RE: SD card Access

      @daryl ... I learned what was wrong. I does not recognize 64Gb SD cards. 32GB worked nicely, and the 32gb card is listed in the File Manager app in its left column.

      Thank you, arubislander!!!

      I formated the card as FAT32 on my laptop that uses Ubuntu 22.04 operating system. I know that there are files on that FAT 32 card because I put them there this morning after formating it.

    • RE: SD card Access

      @ian Hi Ian. Thank you for your reply and interest.

      In filemanager, there is no designation for the card on the left column....

      At the top there is a "Restriceted Access" banner with an "Unlock" green button . When I touch that and enter my password I'm able to view the rest of the directories under "My Device."

      However, when I look under /mnt nothing is there, and when I look under /media nothing is there.
