Why is 20.04 a higher priority than VoLTE? 16.04 runs great on the OS side, but without VoLTE many phones will soon stop functioning. What does 20.04 add that is not just nice to have features?

Is there anything special about the Volla phone hardware?
Hello!
I have been using a Pixel 3a for a few months now with UT, and I love the software side of things.
I heard that Volla phone will be the first phone to get VoLTE support when it is finally finished, so I've been thinking about switching once that project is finished, but I wanted to know more about the Volla phone itself. The website talks endlessly about how secure the software and OS are, which I totally get, but they rarely talk about the phone itself?
Does the Volla phone have hardware switches for mic, camera or connectivity? Is it easily reparable? Are spare parts offered easily? Are the parts from more repair and FOSS friendly companies?
Basically, is there any reason to switch other than the promise of VoLTE?
Thank you!

RE: Smartwatch sync app
@manland @magnargj Interesting, in case you want to try and recreate, here were my exact steps:
- Load InfiniTime version 1.20 on the watch
- Connect the app to the watch
- Disconnect the app
- Load InfiniTime version 1.30 on the watch
- Open the app again and click add a new watch, and add the watch
Just now when I went to connect the watch again I was getting "pair unsuccessful" so I restarted the watch then tried again. When I tried again it paired on the second attempt and immidatly updated the time on the watch. The Bluetooth logo appeared on the watch and then my heart rate and steps data is updating well in real-time.

RE: Smartwatch sync app
@jiho Hey, so as a first step I wanted to re-create the issue you had so I installed infinitime 1.30 and then tried to connect and I had no issues at all. The watch connected first try, the time was set correctly to the phone's time and my heart rate data is syncing perfectly.
Maybe there is an issue with your install of 1.3? If I'm just the only lucky one then let me know and I can look over InfiniTime again but I also compared the releases and there didn't seem to be any updates to the connectivity added, only cosmetic and new features.
Since 1.30 is working for me I think I'll switch gears to notifications instead, let me know if you are having trouble with 1.30 still

RE: Bounty for Pixel 3a/Halium 9 stability
@rocket2nfinity Thanks, I just set up a 10 euro per month donation like they asked for.

RE: Smartwatch sync app
@jiho Ok, that sounds like a good spot for me to start. I will see if I can find the part that might have changed in the connection process.
-
RE: Smartwatch sync app
@jiho Ah, I see! I'm less familiar but for my job I've had to write a lot of python this month as well so I will take a look! Probably for the best in terms of getting something working as soon as possible.
Have you looked at the InfiniTime source code to try and see what they changed from version 1.2 to 1.3? You said the issue now is Bluetooth won't connect?

RE: Smartwatch sync app
@jiho Are you willing to take pull requests? I was actually thinking about trying to make my own version of this app but then I found out you're already pretty far in! I have an PineTime and Pixel 3a with UT, and I also have a lot of experience with C++.

RE: Bounty for Pixel 3a/Halium 9 stability
@rik Totally, makes sense, I've been following the progress of VoLTE and I was thinking this was a pretty big step forward all of a sudden. Still, good to hear! I'll try out my new AT&T sim when I get home and see how it goes!
Was a bounty ever set up for the VoLTE? If so I'd like to contribute if I can

RE: Bounty for Pixel 3a/Halium 9 stability
@fredldotme Wait, do you mean better stability for the AT&T and T Mobile support we've already had for a while, or do you mean VoLTE support for UT to work on Verizon?
My main plan is with Verizon so I got a cheap pre-paid to mess around with on AT&T, but does Verizon now work on Pixel 3a with UT?
-
RE: Do any devices work with Verizon?
@rocket2nfinity ok, so some hardware with different formware, but no UT phones work yet? Im enjoying UT a lot even only on wifi, so I think I'll stay on UT and just keep an eye on the VoLTE progress.

RE: Verizon voice, data, sms not working
@rocket2nfinity please let me know, I seriously think this is the #1 thing keeping UT from being more mainstream. I can deal with Jank, but if it’s literally unusable on most networks, I can’t use it.
Are there any phones that work with Verizon on UT?

Do any devices work with Verizon?
I got my Pixel 3a ported and it’s amazing! Right till I found out that Verizon doesn’t work on it at all. I know it’s an issue with VoLTE, but I heard a rumor that PinePhone can work on Verizon, is this true?
-
RE: Verizon voice, data, sms not working
@rocket2nfinity said in Verizon voice, data, sms not working:
VoLTE
I didn't see this until after I had my Pixel 3a all set up, I'm in the same boat as you. Where can I donate to directly support getting VoLTE or support for Verizon of any kind? I know I can donate to Ubuntu Touch in general, but for me this is the singular biggest issue with me making the switch, so I want to support it directly

RE: Can I run a windows virtual machine on google pixel 3a using ubuntu touch?
@zubozrout Good point, better to cut out the middle man and get WINE working first. Is there somewhere to learn more about what applications can run on Libertine and what can't?
-
Can I run a windows virtual machine on google pixel 3a using ubuntu touch?
I know it’s stupid and would be unbelievably slow, I want to know if it’s possible. I saw that using libertine you can run desktop software on a phone running Ubuntu touch so my next logical question is, how far can you push it?
Even if it’s a buggy slow mess, I’m wondering if it is even possible to do?
My phone comes in this week and I’m so excited to get started, screw it up, wipe and re-flash it, then screw it all up again!
