@Peter-Gamma Keyboard and mouse work which is great as soon as these office apps I mentioned here are in the open store: https://forums.ubports.com/topic/10240/is-there-a-decent-text-editor-for-ubuntu-touch-part-ii I will replace: my Android phone and my Pinephone by a Pixel 3 with Ubuntu Touch for mobile office But only the Light P Word Processor in th OpenStore is too litte to make me change.

@arubislander Alaraajavamma from the Pine64 forum uses Abiword and Gnumeric on the Pinephone. And jackfish has installed box86/WINE with Word97 in the Pinephone: .https://forum.pine64.org/showthread.php?tid=18489 He says LibreOffice has laggy typing on his Pinephone, but Word 97, once the program is up, it's as robust as anything on the PP. All its features function.. Jackfish is an experienced Word 97 user who used the Gemini PDA Personal digital assistant. Word 97 would eventually be the best office software for a 5,5 inch Pinephone screen. And also the Pinephone the best device for office application development. But Pine64 has pulled the Pinephone keyboard from the market and leaves me and Jackfish completely frustrated. Also Jackfish wrote in the Pine64 forum, he bought the Pinephone only because of the Pinephone keyboard.

@Peter-Gamma and that is your good right here on this forum. Giving a negative review of the company based on personal experience is fine. What I meant by making it personal was the targeting of a particular person who works at/for Pine64.

@Lakotaubp Thank you for your support for the Pinephone Keyboard. Unfortunately I lack of support to fight for the Pinephone Keyboard in the Pine64 forum. So I invite you the help me to fight that is comes back. I invested a lot of time in Office solutions for the Pinephone. These basically only make sense with the Pinephone Keyboard.

@domubpkm yes, they are. But not all vulnerabilities affect the specific usecase of UT. You must also consider how easy it is, or if it is at all possible, to exploit the vulnerability on UT. Also UT has less packages installed than a typical Ubuntu desktop / server install. All I can tell you is that the UT devs do keep an eye on the CVE's and act on those that are deemed a present and serious threat on UT.

@arubislander Very helpful information, thanks. I still got my Pinephone with my Pinephone keyboard. You never know if someone adapts LibreOffice for the Pinephone screen in 10 years from now. But next to it I went back to an Android phone with Softmaker Office. But then will buy also a Pixel 3a as a privacy phone with Ubuntu Touch, and also to get used to a Linux phone, since I am against Google products. Scrcpy is nice for my Android phone, but I am happy to have also a solution for the Pixel 3a.

@Rinkeby Thanks for the answer, I am currently struggeling to solve a problem on my Pinephone. I have installed postmarketOS on it and Abiword. But Abiword cannot write to the external SD card. I want to store and edit Abiword files on the external SD card to be able to pull out the SD card from the phone an stick it into my Ubuntu PC: I am almost there to do this on my Pinephone, exept that I have not yet the permission to write Abword files on my Ubuntu PC to the SD card with postmarketOS: My question is, can I do this with the Voila phone as well? Install Abiword on the external SD card, pull the SD card from the phone, stick it into a Ubuntu PC, to furhter process Abiword files there?

Thanks for your detailed answers, which I really appreciate. I already have a ChromeCast 3 dongle which I used for an Android phone, and found out yesterday, that to use Chromium on PMOS has become easy. On my Windows PC, it was also very easy to mirror the screen over a ChromeCast to HDMI. I currently have VNC server connection between PinePhone and PC, but I think a WIFI to HDMI solution would be better. If I would buy a new device, I would prefer the Miracast standard, although I don t know whether desktop mirroring is as easy as with the Chrome browser. I am also positive now about LibreOffice on the PinePhone. Jacob Crume, a Robotics student in New Zealand used linux-based PinePhone daily for a year: https://news.itsfoss.com/pinephone-review/ He used four desktop environment, Plasma Mobile, Phosh and Lomiri, he spent roughly four months with each environment. He was surprised at how capable the PinePhone was as a laptop. He said he often found myself editing documents in LibreOffice. That is good news.

@peter-gamma said in Does LibreOffice run on the Fairphone 3?: It is worth publishing issues. Distro developers eventually will update it. Hm, but I think that the libertine container does not have high priority right now. Maybe this will change in the future again, since Wireless External Displays starting to work on Halium 9 and 10 devices again and desktop apps gain more popularity. Maybe it just works, as soon as the jump to the new Ubuntu base 20.04 is completed, because dependencies and packages are more up to date then...

@AppLee ank you for being positive about LibreOffice, AppLee, I am too: https://petergamma.org/one-of-the-most-interesting-future-application-for-pinephone-users-libreoffice/ Unfortunatly was not able to gather a lot of people willing to do it in the last two years. But I am happy with a step by step approach. People recommended Abiword, Gnumeric and VIM for the Pinephone. Vim was released in 1991, and Abiword and Gnumeric development has stopped 10 years ago when LibreOffice started developing. We have here one first step to make LibreOffice better on the Pinephone: https://petergamma.org/pinephone-libreoffice-fix-for-tiny-menu-text-missing-title-bar/ And instead of using Vim why not to choose a brute force method and remove as much as possible from LibreOffice and then control it by controk keys? Then we had a LibreOffice with is similar to Vim. You then can add the menues your desire. If we have a keyboard which is suitable as for instance the Pinephone keyboard this would be the next step. And I am gathering people willing to remove all the unneccessary stuff from LibreOffice for a version which can be controlled by control keys similar to Vim.

Hi @Peter-Gamma I am a bit dubious as what is your need to have a server on a handheld device. Servers are used for higher capabilities, it can be higher storage volume, more processing power, large RAM size or large bandwidth... Using a smartphone or a tablet as a server is not something I would advice, it would be better to keep a mobile device as a client (it will also save battery). From what I could understand of your various messages about SD cards, SMB and now Minecraft ?! It seems you're running all over the place. Given your previous post, I imagine you want to be able to backup your phone in case anything went wrong. You also want to easily swap device. For the syncing there are already existing apps to fulfill your need either syncthing or nexcloud client (I think there are a couple in the open store)

@arubislander Thanks for sharing your experience. The reason why it does not work for me is simple since I don t have a Ubports phone available. I stuck in the process of unlocking the bootloader of a Xiaomi phone and it was very difficult, and I don t know whether it is worth to continue. I have now also a Fairphone 3 available which hopefully is easer. I have listed the options which I know which are possible to connect a phone to a PC on my personal website: for Ubports phones: https://petergamma.org/file-access-from-pc-to-ubports-linux-phone/ for (Ubports) PinePhones: https://petergamma.org/file-access-from-pc-to-linux-pinephone/ Thanks for sharing these information. To connect a Linux phone to a PC with a network shared folder or to connect a phone SD card as a network drive to a Windows or Ubuntu Desktop network the same way it works on a PC would be highly desirable. But I am happy to know what is possible.

@josele13 said in Write to external SD card possible with Ubuntu Touch?: Thanks for your answers. I see there seems to be no easy way out except to change to another device, which has other disadvantages (availability, high price). Maybe I let go the external SD card. Which is the easiest way to acess the internal SD to read and write files from a PC, for instance as an external drive?

Thanks for your ansers. The Redmi 7a has the codename Pine. There is an installation instruction on Youtube for Redmi 7a, but it is very long. Thanks for your detailed explanation. I will try the second video on Youtube which was also helpful. If got also a Poco F1 to flash, which I love for it s usb-c port and because of Joels port. I will definitely become a Ubports and Linux user because of the many Linux phones, Linux AsteroidOS watches and Linux Nano PCs which are available. The time is gone when you had to carry around a Laptop with Matlab for sensor data acquisition .
