    What is Syncthing?

Syncthing is a continuous file synchronization program. It synchronizes files between two or more computers in real time, safely protected from prying eyes. Your data is your data alone and you deserve to choose where it is stored, whether it is shared with some third party, and how it's transmitted over the internet.

What does this have to do with Ubuntu Touch?

I have packaged Syncthing into a click. This is based off the work of @ZeroPointEnergy who I am not sure is still active in the community.

My attention was drawn to Syncthing because I was looking for a simple way to sync my ebooks between my tablet and my phone, and the Nexcloud sync app did not play well with my Nextcloud setup.

Cool! Where can I get it?

    OpenStore

    Syncthing companion snap

Want to use Syncthing as a lightweight backup solution and need to install in on a server? There is now a Syncthing snap packaged by yours truly.
Get it from the Snap Store

    I have questions.

Any suggestions or questions on its functioning on Ubuntu Touch can be posted in this thread. I will do my best to help where possible. Questions on Syncthing in general are better posted on their support forum.

Hi. I got my Volla now for some hours. I'm working with Linux (Debian and Ubuntu) for >10 years now, but I cannot achieve anything on this system.

No sftp connection, no file sync, no root access. Even the owncloud app doesn't connect to my server. The only thing I can do, is going to the internet and surf on websites. But that's it.

The file manager doesn't show any buttons to connect to a remote device. Where are the cloud apps and all the connection and remote tools I'm used to work with on my other systems?

    Regards,
    Lalle

@Lalle75 said: Hi. I got my Volla now for some hours. I'm working with Linux (Debian and Ubuntu) for >10 years now, but I cannot achieve anything on this system. Hello Lalle, I think the answers provided by UT FAQ 8 (https://t.me/UTFAQ/10) may be useful for you: "8. Can I use apt on Ubuntu Touch? yesn't [yes and no]. Ubuntu Touch is built with privacy, reliability and stability accross a wide range of devices in mind. It is crucial that the developers are able to quickly reproduce and fix bugs across devices to ensure no faulty update ever makes it to the stable channel on any device, ever. To achieve this the rootfs is read-only. This allows UBports to provide image based updates. When you run an OTA update it replaces the read-only part of the operating system. Userdata is not a part of that, so you don't lose that or installed apps. But apt is not designed for a read-only rootfs, so as a result it will attempt to write to the read-only portion of the operating system. While you can remount your rootfs as read-write, because apt is writing into a normally read-only part of the system, an OTA update can partially overwrite the changes apt made. This can result in a broken system. So using apt essentially means you are running your own fork of Ubuntu Touch. You can install apps from the OpenStore app. How to get updates is described in our usage channel. there are other package managers that are made to work with a readonly rootfs, current working examples include snap and crackle (https://github.com/tuxecure/crackle)."

so in my ppsspp webserver and a few other apps there is a bug like on the ppsspp when the intro animation end and is supposed to switch to the main ui it will hang until you unfocus the app and then refocus it ...same with opening webpages on the webserver app ....its got me stumped any ideas? ...its not like a super big deal cause the apps work but its still annoying

@ChromiumOS-Guy what really has me confused tho is the same issue with the webserver as well but its actually between two apps instead of the one its like its not firing off until it registers focus
  • R

Is there anyway to do this?

    If so, how?

@R66F root, you'd probably need to use a custom waydroid gsi with SU binaries. from there just install one of the many root modules/frameworks that let you spoof app id's

Hi, I did some experimenting and now I cannot install UT on my 6t. All installation guides(that I tried) presume that you have >android 9 installed on the device.

Hello, I meet difficulties to flash the recovery on oneplus6. I notice that in can't flash the recovery using fastboot flash recovery file.img But, it works using : fastboot flash boot file.img If you comes from any linuxOS (PostmarketOS or Mobian), flash the dtbo too. It works with the one of /e/OS (https://images.ecloud.global/community/enchilada/) you found it in the recovery zip file. Using this way, i came back from mobian to OxygèneOS... And Ubuntu touch !

Guys, how likely is it to port Ubuntu Touch to the Jelly Max?
What is missing right now? I’m convinced that this very compact and convenient device deserves a port, but it’s not that simple.

    With respect, tr4in33

@tr4in33 - unfortunately, it is very unlikely any Unihertz product will ever get a decently functioning port for Ubuntu Touch, because that company is absolutely horrible (and in fact in violation of the licensing) for ever posting the kernel source for its devices. Best regarfs, Steve Berson

I have been looking into improving energy consumption recently. There's capacity to greatly improve the battery life from switching off features on a device. On my FP5 I can consume overnight ~30% battery with all features on, WiFi, BT, Location, NFC, 5G, device locked. Compared to 2% with only 2G enabled and device locked.

This has had me looking into shell scripts on the forum and the battery-saver app from open-store.
I'm looking for something light that would just disable all these features without going into each option and then restore everything back as I had it.

To me this seems like something that should be included into a toggle on the Battery pull-down menu itself, much like most modern devices have a "low power mode".
How feasible would a toggle option to disable all these power hungry features and set the radio to the most energy efficient available in your location. Then toggling back would restore what you had previous. It seems like something the OS should provide and not additional apps.

Is this something people would want to use from the OS itself rather than additional possibly more flexible unconfined apps?

I would say being part of the OS leaves scope for more battery saving options if it was to be taken further as the OS matures, maybe scheduler tweaks or manual display brightness settings for example. But keeping everything a simple toggle for the UX.

@projectmoon As I understand it apps work like that currently in UT? You can use UT Tweak Tool to have apps ignore this. Experiments you mention may vary from device to device based on the silicon which is fine if your OS is only targeted to one processor for example.

i made myself a xmr miner uses supportxmr.pool ...im getting about 213 hases on my xaiomi redmi note 9 pro ...i got screenshot from running on desktop so the miner wont run as its built for arm but its pretty sweet shows your accepted share hash rate and total pool balance

    Hi,
Currently running 24.04-1 on the daily channel.
    Latest update (24.04-12026-04-24)

This appears to have caused an issue with the triangular signal strength indicator which may sometimes briefly show a weak signal but it reverts to a blank very quickly and then that's it. The phone works receiving and sending calls and sms and also cellular data. It appears to be just the signal indicator malfunctioning.

Any one else have this issue?

    Jules

Update: I've just noticed that the signal strength indicator works only during a call but there is no function once a call is terminated.

so as im porting a ton of software i got like A TON of side projects for unbuntu touch including a new open source skyrim engine but its not been easy even using AI im basically backwards engineering the creation engine from scratch ....but if i can get skyrim i can get fallout 4 and some other games ....everything im doing might start out a little broken but ill always come back around to it eventually we now have a working psp emulator i got slated winulator as welll and a few others ...im going to be doing both confined and unconfined clickables ...what do we need? ...i have alot of tools coming as well im just trying to get alot of bigger projects out of the way ...also i need stop creating new projects lol if i can get done before jesus comes back ubuntu touch will be well rounded but some things i gotta kinda hack the crap out of for example my archive manager "xfiles" ...is basically useless unless i ignore the UT app conventions ...im not having any luck with contenthub as far as sharing with other apps another thing im doing is im eventually gonna gather all UT in one folder and make it all streamlined and updated when i do this i also wanna bring it to ubuntu what is it on now 26.X? im hoping the x86 build once i get is working solid will help with development ....also ubport ubuntu touch idea ....fork the x86 version keep it confined rebrand it for "steam os" and send a copy to steam and ask for some money? ....would fit the anti-cheat needs and fill a gap for linux gaming ...and with then convergence just makes sense for something like that considering handhelds ....could be a good idea? .....imagine what this would do for base UT awareness and community

but you would need to post the logs file

    Hello UBports people,

I have been using a Oneplus 5T as my daily driver for years now - big thanks to everyone that contributes!

Since the update to 24.04, some core apps have stopped working on my device. Calendar, clock and notes will open to the splash screen but then just load indefinitely. All other core apps work fine, but not having a clock app is pretty annoying! Plus, I had lots of notes that I would like to be able to access.

I have tried reinstalling with the UBports installer and updating between different channels. If I uninstall, then the apps can no longer be installed from the app store. I have lost clock and notes entirely this way.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there anything I can do about it?

    Thanks

@Balrong It is possible to install a click by browsing the web site open-store.io, download it and install from there. yes the install is an option as advised by @mrt10001. I have found no other way to install again with UT already installed than running 'sudo reboot bootloader' and launching the installer from there (after connecting the USB cable of course).

    Hi,

I've noticed that whenever starting an Xmir app (even a confined and suspended one), then lomiri starts to use a lot of CPU ( 70-80% in my vollaphone ), even if the app itself does not do anything and that the phone is suspended. (Also the app itself does not seem to be really suspended but in any case its cpu usage is generally very low in comparison to lomiri)

It applies to uWolf and Signal-desktop.

I'm not sure if this is the right place de report and hopefully Mir2.0 will solve this problem by removing the necessity to use Xmir.

For what it's worth, this bug should be solved in 24.04-1.3 (no need to apply a patch script: the sense that the placeholder does not remain open in background anymore). It could still be a nice fix to avoid that it uses a lot of CPU in the first place, as it could possibly allow for faster starts of the apps.

    Hi,

Just wanted to mention that I contacted the in-development French identity mobile app, to ask them for interoperability, and remind them their duty to make sure public service is available for everybody, and that their role was not to enforce the choice of mobile OS of their citizens.

    https://france-identite.gouv.fr/

Surprisingly I got a pretty open and positive reply, apologizing that their app was not compatible with my OS (Ubuntu Touch), and saying they shared the goal of interoperability, and would study that with the development team what was possible. I did not expect such a positive answer, although I don't know if anything concrete will get out of this.

As a side note I wonder why for this kind of app, with a real need of interoperability, they don't use more Qt, because from what I understand Qt allows to develop apps for Android, iOS, Windows, Mac, Linux desktop, Linux mobile (Ubuntu Touch, Sailfishos, Mobian, postMarketOs, pureOs, ect...), all at once, with only few custom things to go for each platform. Any thoughts on that?

@Moem I second this, I've been wondering why this was on recent in the inTouch app for who knows how long.

In efforts of updating device information on devices.ubuntu-touch.io, I'd like to know what all changes have fp3 users seen in focal and noble (in context to the listings on the main website). Is there anything that used to work but doesn't anymore? Or something that works now which didn't previously? Also is volte working?

    thankss!

    Hi,

I am working on a port for the Lenovo Tab M8 HD, and I would like to get some feed back.

Working: Wifi, GPS, sensors, back light, display rotation, ADB, ssh

More testing needed: Bluetooth (can connect to devices), audio (YouTube videos play fine), camera (can take photos with both cameras)

Not tested yet: waydroid, libertine, vpn

    Not working: tap to wake

The port is for the TB-8505F model only. Before installing make sure that you can reinstall Android in case something goes wrong. The easiest way is to use the Lenovo Rescue and Smart Assistant, however that tool is only available on Windows.

    To install:

    fastboot flash boot boot.img
    fastboot flash system ubuntu.img
    fastboot -w

    • Restart into Ubuntu Touch
    fastboot reboot

There is no recovery image yet, same with the dtbo image. Detailed install instructions are on my TODO list. 🙂

    Have fun!
    Kai

@k.nacke thanks for all your work on this. any updates on the missing character issue? i just installed using the latest devel-flashable-large artifacts from Friday, January 30, 2026 - https://gitlab.com/redstar-team/ubports/lenovo-tab-m8/lenovo-tab-m8/-/jobs/12937600982/artifacts/browse and ran into the following issues: i initially chose English (UK) in setup per CaptainTalonAlt's post quoted below, but was unable to enter the wi-fi password due to j and 9 registering as spaces in the password prompt. @CaptainTalonAlt said: The keyboard characters seems to fix for English (UK), it’s the US keyboard that seems the problem. after skipping wi-fi setup and testing the English (UK) keyboard in the notes application: f shows on the keyboard but enters as a space. all other letters and numbers work. entering j does work in notes but still does not work on the wi-fi password prompt in settings. a number of the symbols on the 2nd page of symbols are blank but all input in notes when pressed. i switched language to english (us) and rebooted: j and 9 now work when entering wi-fi password at the prompt q, y, f, g, h, k and ? are blank on the keyboard but input in notes. all upper case letters show on the keyboard correctly and all symbols on the 2nd page as well. The language listed in grey over the space bar shows En lish thanks again

    Hello,
how can I export my notes from phone (from the Notes app)? It is somehow with the syncevolution --export, like for the contacts or calendar?

I have Ubuntu 16.04, OTA-12 on my phone.

@aimar I sync notes between my phone and my computer this way. Syncthing from the open store to syncthing on a Xubuntu computer. Works well, but I have to manually run Syncthing from time to time to do the sync, as I don't want to try running it continously on the phone.

I've noticed the "Network" tray icon gets broken after screen lock:

    screenshot20260420_151519704.png

    What could be causing this?

    (using UT 24.04)

@MrT10001 @MrT10001 said: You can reinstall through the installer leaving the "wipe data" unticked which will retain all your data and take about 10 minutes or in updates change the channel to development and then back again. Good to know (never tried it) but that still would clear all Libertine containers right (IIRC packages get installed outside user data?)
