@domubpkm Yes currently you need to do all firmware updates manually.

@Fizz No, but a phone will never be a fully secure device as it will always ping your position from a cell phone mast or WiFi hotspot. Likewise to install UT the boot loader needs to be unlocked so there is an issue there too. The great thing about UT is that Google, Apple, Huawei, Xiaomi etc. are not scraping your data - no one is with UT.

It seems unlikely. It's a lot of work for such an old and not very powerful device. Someone may step up and do the work but I would not count on it.

    @wizardi3
I guess in the US at least they are no longer supporting phones that aren't 5G capable. I was offered a FREE phone at two shops I tried and online.

  • Could I get some beginner advice please?

OK, it looks like I need to give up on this. I just can't work out what to do.
I can't seem to do what the twrp guide says.
Then if I ignore that and hope that my TWRP is new enough I can't seem to work out what to actually do.
I clearly am not smart enough to understand enough of the words.

I will do something else instead.
    Cheers.

@cirno I have an old sysyem from feb 2023 and it was working fine though webviews are definitely sluggish. Can't remember if it was better before when I actually used it. I updated to the latest (04/2023) and I do noticed that the system is overall more sluggish. Not really sure what's happening here. I really wish the installer is capable of installing specific version. On the unsupported MutiROM on my Nexus 5, it's possible to specify which version to install so I think it should be technically possible.

@tatayoyo if you prefer a home screen to be present, you can install one of the home screen apps from the store

@Keneda said in where are the homescreen and return button?:

even if i didn't even know before reading your post that N5 has 3 touch buttons lol

    well, it actually does not
in android, virtual on-screen buttons are used

@stropbu I have installed "Lineage Os" on the phone "Lg Nexus 5" (it has been impossible for me to install "Ubuntu Touch" again; The camera fails. It must be the motherboard of the phone that is damaged, which gave the above failures .

I apologize for believing that it was the "Ubuntu Touch" operating system.

I hope this information is useful to everyone.

Note: I hope one day to be able to change the motherboard of the Nexus 5 Lg phone, when I do I will reinstall ubuntu touch, but I must assess the expense, I already bought a new battery, the old one being fine, and the camera, I already spent money, buy one motherboard means between 30 and 60 €uros more. Greetings.

i think for new users who are learning about the devices page this could be relevant....

Oh yes, it certainly is. And this needs to be changed. But changes like this one don't make themselves.

@moem No don't think so, but I only really use the devices page as a reference point for devices. I just tend to have that page open. The installer should be exactly the same.

@777funk said in ATT (H2O) No Service with Nexus 5. Anything I can do?:

    thats a fairly major drawback

It is! It is, however, being worked on.
On the other hand, Nexus 5 will never support VoLTE, even when UT will. It doesn't have the hardware capability.
