• Snaps on Android? What does that mean for Ubports?

Does this mean that Ubuntu Core images could be relatively easily delivered to devices that support Halium? Could it potentially allow Ubuntu Touch to be moved onto Ubuntu Core as Canonical planned before they ditched it? In my opinion Ubuntu Core based system and snaps as a primary app distribution format for 16.04 or later at some point could be now discussed again, as it is definitely an argument worth evaluating. What's more, Ubuntu Core is going be treated with new series bianually (http://ubuntudesign.github.io/docs-demo/snappy-dev/ubuntu_core_desktop/), thus by the time Ubports is moved to 16.04 (as I guess there are still pretty much a few months to go) there will be Ubuntu Core series 18 at least in tests. Wouldn't moving onto Core unload quite a big chunk of work and code maintainance from Ubports then? By the way, to be not misleaded by the thread title: it's not that you will be able to install snap applications on your Android phone at some point - it's rather that Ubuntu Core will be able to be booted in a similar way to Android, thus potentially simplyfying delivery of Ubuntu Core image for a device that runs Android out of the box.

https://copperhead.co/android/ it seems uber expensive to buy one of their pre installed Pixel phones, and it's also rather restrictive for application options. interesting approach though to hardening Android. It would be cool to have dual boot with UT to try out both. probably not going to be possible. Will Pixels be candidates for future UT porting?

@bq4.5 said in Push your vendor: about spying lol, man your government, your provider, anything that is connected to the net is spied on some how or the other, so just spare me the gibberish spy song. Want to stay safe from spying, just avoid internet. You are right. We live in a connected world. This is great and has a lot of opportunities but also threats. So unfortunately we have to get used to the fact that there is less native privacy from day to day BUT... ...it is also a question of the personal attitude. What I want to say is that on some point it has to start even if this start has not the immediate potential to safe the world. So if now we have the opportunity to develop an alternative mobile OS we should be carefully aware about those general conditions. At this point: A big THANK YOU to the UBports pioneers @mariogrip @NeoTheThird and Dalton Durst! (edited) And of course @Flohack... Maybe the following is going too far for this discussion but anyway let me write this thought: Out of a broader perspective I personally believe that privacy is one of the main preconditions for democratic and peaceful societies. Only if we as citizens have the possibility to discuss controversial topics without fearing to be blamed by the officials and elites because of not stating the "universal trouth" with every sentence, we get better and beeter in understanding the complex world. This is due to someone who can identify and articulate the mistakes in our statements again without fearing to be blamed. This personal understanding will than be the basis for our voting behaviour. So iteratively we - and so our systems - will get better and better.

I'm unsure of what benefit this gives us as opposed to a more accepted currency like USD or EUR.

@callump123, it seems the problem is OP has mounted OP3/3T screens upside-down in their OP5 model. That means the screen refresh bottom to top, not top to bottom. Here are some videos showing the effect. More info. https://www.reddit.com/r/Android/comments/6kh83o/confirmed_oneplus_5s_display_is_upsidedown_likely/djm700d/ https://www.xda-developers.com/confirmed-oneplus-5-display-upside-down-likely-reason-jelly-scrolling/ Edit: Answering your question, in that last link you can see this: Not every OnePlus 5 owner will encounter this issue or notice it happening. It is unknown how many OnePlus 5 owners will ever encounter this, though OnePlus assures that it is only a small number of users.

I know it is a difficult thing. But it is not the app who has to read something but are you who has to learn to draw letters in a way the app understands. I see that are many things more important. Thanks.

First, let me point you to the sticky note we put in this forum: https://forums.ubports.com/topic/206/will-you-port-to-device-x Then, there is our contributor @walidham who is working on Moto G 2014, maybe when he is finished he can try to go further to 2015, who knows ?

@sverzegnassi said in Ubuntu for mobile devices post mortem analysis by Simon Raffeiner: I would only ask if it's better to have a phone with a smooth experience, or a phone that converges to desktop, at first. That's right, first a fully functional phone. Better go step by step. Besides there isn't good hardware available for true convergence, at least for now.

The reason why you got banned is because you was rude to other people on the forum, THIS IS NOT IN ANY WAY ACCEPTED BEHAVIOR, you got an warning for this. Even though you got an warning you got into a discussion with one of the admins in which you there proceeded to be straight up rude to the admin, this resulted in a BAN. END OF DISCUSSION!
