@jonlockwood17 said in Mi A2 : installing UT over Android One - the bootloader issue: It seems to be the nature of the beast. the annoying boot loader screen isn't a huge deal, but it does beg the question, how secure is the OS? Does this mean google has a back door? I wouldn't worry a lot about that : Google and Microsoft forced a lot of their Secure Boot crap on us which 99,99% of us totally do not need!

@sladek9 You can go to settings => Updates and check if an update is available on your device. Most of recent files in Gitlab/Github should be merged by the core team to be available. When done, you may change your update channel to test it (top right corner of update settings). (Dev-daily / RC - weekly / Stable - 2 months). It's not recommended to flash files yourself unless you may brick your device.

@fikirsancisi61 when the ubuntu recovery starts did it show slot a or slot b? I had success only on slot a. Also make sure you have stock android 9. You may have to do a fastboot flash of the files.

@kalli said in Porting MI A2 with UBports Installer: Hi @phandersson What is the issue you are having? I described them here: https://forums.ubports.com/topic/6840/ubports-install-fails-with-permission-error-on-the-device Mine was that the PC didn't detect the phone when connected with the USB cable. Then I installed adb on my win10 pc and could unlock it. Yes, I also had to switch PC. I started on a Lenovo P53 laptop, but that one was also unable to communicate successfully with the phone. I then switched to an old custom-built desktop, and that one communicates fine (openSUSE Leap in both cases). After that I installed UBT using the ubports-installer_0.8.8-beta_win. The first time installation failed. I repeated but then it installed all the way to the end. I used the same version of the installer (the linux build, obviously), but I'm facing a "permission denied" error when the installer attempts to create a new folder on the device.

@phandersson Please ignore my last question as I'm now able to boot the phone on the TWRP image. SIM card and Mi account are indeed unrelated.

Also don't forget to unlock your screen unless you won't be able to access to your files (you will get a blank page)...

@luksus Because the code currently checks the width of the current screen and if it's higher than the specified threshold, the keyboard uses all tablet specific values. Since newer phones are taller, they are detected as tablets by the keyboard.

After doing the dev channel update there is no call issues anymore. The proximity sensor sometimes turns the screen on while i call but not a big issue. Have not tested mms but the sms feature is snappy, I get them instant. As the experience is very good, I can see my self daly-driving it now. Will do more & more testing..Report / check bugs. on a sidenote, a 'remote control IR' app would be bangers. Since this phone has an IR sender.

This is a matter of patience sometimes. Did you read instructions carefully on the devices site?: https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/jasmine-sprout/ Sometimes it can do the trick to repeat the installation, sometimes even several times.. In my case I didn't have to downgrade to android 9, but most of the cases it seems to be useful. Just try again, be patient and kind to yourself! maybe you want to read reports in the forum first, there are always some good hints to find: https://forums.ubports.com/category/92/xiaomi-mi-a2 good luck!
