    • Congratulations.

I congratulate everybody associated with the development and support of UB Touch. I hope this message gets to all involved.

I never dared to have a smart phone until recently because of privacy concerns. My Nokia flip phone must be a dozen years old by now and is showing its age, so I was intrigued to discover UB Ports in April. The idea of a Linux phone seemed too good to be true, but having bought a Nexus 5 last week I am very pleased with it so far. I'll be making a donation to UBP as soon as I have bought and tested a SIM card.

    • A horrifying experience

The only smart phone I have ever owned or used was my Nexus 5 which came with UT already installed on it a few years ago. Despite its limitations I have generally been satisfied with it. However I recently wanted a specific application that is only available on Android so I reluctantly bought a secondhand Galaxy A3.

What a mistake that was. The world and his uncle wanted permissions to access the phone, while both Google and Samsung insisted on installing all sorts of objectionable rubbish that I did not want and could not remove. Furthemore it was endlessly notifying me of more rubbish to be installed or updated.

After 6 days I could stand it no more, so I wiped the damn thing and got rid of it. Having returned to UT on Nexus 5 peace and harmony has been restored. Never again will Google be allowed to intrude.

    • RE: Chromium & Electron

@nero355 I have tried to make allowance for English not being your primary language, (despite the extraordinary ability of the Dutch to speak better English than many natives here,) but surely you realise by now that many on this forum resent your attempts to impose your opinions and views on everyone. No amount of silly cartoon faces can soften the criticisms you regularly make.

In a free society and a free forum we all have our own opinions, and to jeer at those that do match yours is insufferable. Please either learn some tact or keep quiet, preferably the latter.

I noticed the same thing thing after the update. Click on the Notebook tab, then on the Notes tab, and your notes will re-appear. You have to do this every time you start the application.

@ahmed_samy The best solution to your requirements is an Android phone.

    • Simple printing

I just noticed a new application for printing from UT in the Open Store called Simple Printing. I am pleased to say it discovered my wireless printer and printed a colour PDF with no fuss at all. Well done and thank you toThomas Büning.

Problem solved. There is an unlabelled blue P on the donate page that leads to Paypal.

    • RE: After 5 month..why I swap back to Android...

@picrard That's fair enough. If the phone does not do what is required of it there is no point in continuing with it. With luck UT will match your needs in the future.

    • RE: Views on an alternative source of funding via tokens

@pipdickens I can't comment on the proposed scheme as I know nothing about how such things work, but in my experience anything that sounds too good to be true invariably is too good to be true.

      @stanwood said in Devices discontinued?:

@domubpkm Officially the Nexus 5 will not be ported to Focal because it runs on Halium 5.

That news has been expected for the best part of a year, but not confirmed until now. Sadly it marks the end of my UT experience as there is no small phone alternative to Nexus 5.

Goodbye folks, and good luck with Ubuntu Touch.

@Keneda said in OTA-25 Call for Testing Companion Post:

Edit : N5 also seems to be affected in a different way.
Sometime after a cold boot i get : bootlogo ("Nexus 5 powered by Ubuntu Touch....") then dark screen for 10 seconds, then bootlogo again, then dark screen, then Ubuntu Touch boots.
Other times i get bootlogo, dark screen, UT boots.

I resurrected my Nexus 5 to test this point. After updating to OTA-25 Stable, which went without a hitch, I performed three restarts and all of them worked just fine.

OK I got to the theme settings, but this is all that is shown:

You can customise your theme settings here. Settings are stored on a per-device basis, so you are able to have different settings on different devices (phone, tablet, desktop, etc.)

Switch which side each mobile menu is on

Automatically hide the navbar on scrollVery small screens (e.g. phones in portrait mode)Smaller screens (e.g. phones, some tablets)Medium sized screens (e.g. tablets in landscape mode)Larger screens (e.g. desktop computers)

Quick note on Forum changes has evrybody noticed the changes available at the bottom of your profiles. Rights and consent, 2FA and Themes.

I see none of those in profile Settings. I do see the lurid orange background colour which makes text harder to read.

@developerbayman said in flashlight to top quick menu?:

@cliffcoggin i wonder if it could just be responsive so whenever you add a item iy just produces another row .....

That would be a nice improvement once UT is a fully functional OS for all supported phones, but I don't see the point of tweaking the bells and whistles of minor functions while major functions such as the camera have not been maintained for over a year, the Adblock application is about to lose its maintainer, VOLTE (or do I mean VOIP, I never remember the difference,) does not work, not to mention the enormous amount of effort involved in the transition from Ubuntu 16 to 20. My impression is that Ubuntu Touch is on the verge of collapse for lack of people willing and able to take part in the core development work.

    • RE: flashlight to top quick menu?

To my way of thinking the notification bar is cluttered enough without adding such non essential functions to it. If a two row bar was to be developed then that would be the place for such things, but there are far more important hurdles in UT to overcome before considering that sort of change.

    • RE: Ushby have released an official Review on UT.

@jin-diggs said in Ushby have released an official Review on UT.:

The review needs modifications, I have anxiety disorder, so yes I shouldn't have given it 5, just a rough morning so excuse me. I thought this was a funded project.

      Thank you.

I can not take seriously a review based on incorrect information, written by an anonymous author who admits bias on the basis of feeling ill. I suggest the review is removed until a more objective one can be written.
