RE: New websites
@Luksus i'm talking about this page: https://ubports.com/zh_CN/supported-products

RE: New websites
@Capsia hello there ! Just a quick note: the devices pages is a mess and has always been. To get to the list of supported devices you need to actually pick one of the "flagship" devices and ask for "details" and only then do you get access to what's what. Something more akin to the devices homepage of lineage os would be nice I think

RE: Wire for messaging
@El-Franko ive had an opo for a while and the camera always worked fine, as anybody here having an opo can attest. Whether yours has a broken camera OR you don't actually have the exact device that is well supported (A0001 or sth) OR maybe you jumped to installing the focal (20.04) version of UT which I guess is still quite quirky - if so, getting a stable 16.04 image should solve some of your problems

RE: Second/burner phone number on UT?
@ubuntumale in my experience, the fairphone 2 could be a good choice. It has two well supported sim slots, and being an arm7 device, linphone runs on it (which it won't on arm64 devices)

RE: USB connection to my Pixel 3A not working.
I have to say i'm on 16.04 dev branch and same here - so it's been for a while

RE: reject call with sms
@chris_bavaria yeah ! Sth like "can't answer i'm in a tense 1v5 csgo match" would be quite useful

New RC update fixed flight mode
Last night, as it sometimes happens, i accidentally hit the plane icon on my Pixel. I then get out of flight mode, getting ready to laboriously restart Lomiri so I can get cellular data again and finish watching my video, when suddenly the truth hits me - I won't need to do that. In a fever, i frantically turn cellular data on and off - no way ! It's not greyed out ! It's working ! Not believing my eyes, it try flight mode again - and out of it. I have to face it: flight mode, after years of being a pain in the neck of every UT user, is fixed !!! Hosannah !!!
On a more serious note: this means the world to me. This has been something unnerving to me for so long, a bug that followed me from the FP2 to the 1+1 to this Pixel and I had lost but all hope. Not only does this mean misclicks are not such an issue now; it also means flight mode is now actually usable.
Thanks so much for the work - to whoever made this fix, thank you from the bottom of my heart, and no doubt, on behalf of the whole community. Because I know we spend more time rambling about what's janky in this lovely OS, this kind of stuff needs to be highlighted. On a less fundamental aspect, I have to say the fingerprint sensor is also quite reliable these days. -
RE: All messages marked as unread
@lduboeuf indeed i don't let this counter grow anymore ^^ i've got some ideas i'll propose

RE: All messages marked as unread
@lduboeuf yes I know that. Except i'm not gonna go through a 100+ list of threads and patiently click on them to mark them read. I used to do it now and then because of a couple of threads I left unattended so as to clean my messaging launcher icon - but here there has been some regression where messages I have read are marked unread.
EDIT: i just did the manual cleaning which was less of a chore I made it out to be. These messages where essentially 2FA verifications. Why ? Because usually I only look at the notification to grab the number - and erasing the notification does not mark the message as read. I think there's a real quality of life issue here - unless I came across a real RC update bug and clearing notifications indeed marked messages as read ; I can't remember - you should be able to mark all messages as read ( as you do on this forum) or maybe the notification system should be able to communicate a read message to messaging-app ? -
All messages marked as unread
Hello good folks ! Since RC 57 came to my pixel, my messages app shows a hundred (and counting) unread messages. Therefore I can't know effectively if I indeed missed anything. How can I mark everything as read ?

RE: Ubuntu Touch for Digital Detox?
@jaag It was not planned, but UT did the detox thing for me. I don't have fb and the sorts anymore and I can only vouch for what @Moem said: it's a calmer experience indeed. Notifications are usually far and between and i consume much less videos / games / social and much more books, forums, and interactive novels, thanks mostly to @cybersheep job

RE: How do I log into wifi with a sign-in page?
There is a way !! Either try to reach a bookmarked website through your favorites - or type in the address bar anything starting with https://.... It usually works, strangely enough

RE: [HowTo] Block unwanted calls - create blacklist
@joao-0 u sure it's the script ? Nexus has catastrophic battery life

RE: A couple of questions about this device
@branja6 Hello and welcome. My two cents:
- The device works smoothly compared to other UT phones I had. But coming from android... Battery life is much, much shorter. Using camera is a slow, unintuitive process - when it doesn't bring up permissions issues and you need to restart it. Flight mode will require you to restart the phone or at least the GUI to get a cellular data connection back on - but you might need it to work around sms suddenly not arriving; mms are hit and miss. Fingerprint reader works on paper but actually is barely usable - and only for unlocking the phone anyway. I could go on about other issues but they wouldn't be device specific - everything else is fine I think.
- Waydroid is a rather impressive piece of work. It runs with almost no lag and is easy to use. You just need to hit that waydroid-stop button after each session otherwise it will drain that battery in no time. Forget about using it on a continuous, background-app kind of usage; especially if you need notifications - unless you keep the phone charging, this is an unreasonable use. I managed to install pretty much anything so far, including apps requiring google services, with the help of microG - but core Gapps like Lens or anything like that... It might be possible, not sure.
- Yes, you get the notifications. Btw Signal currently doesn't have any.
- Google camera, I'd be surprised, but maybe.
- to the extent a lot of people work to achieve this, and it's a major prick in the foot of UT users, I'd say it's reasonable...
- Yes, it works fine !

RE: Cannot receive text messages while 4G is enabled
@lakotaubp i can attest to this working
-
RE: enableing hardware acceleration?
@kugiigi yes. Unless you're running some unfinished halium 7 port (like fp2 used to work) in which case everything, including scrolling on webpages, will be quite laggy - you are using hw acceleration. Waydroid is using it as well, and I remember playing clips reliably on it with vlc. However it's ressource heavy and might induce lag because of this... Now if your device is running mainline I guess the problem lies elsewhere - most likely waydroid integration
-
RE: specific halium code base just for us community members?
@developerbayman I guess you can't expect up to date libraries on an OS based on 16.04. Devs have been running in circles for years trying to implement modern aspects into this rigid frame for years. Now we're going towards an LTS version. Expect easier compiling ^^
-
RE: deeper embed of libertine??
@developerbayman If you install libertine-tweak-tool, you can enable a tool called "lish" (libertine shell) - just type lish (or lirsh for root access) and then you may execute commands from inside the container. It's better than using xterm, it's better than using convoluted command lines - that's what I always use and I believe that's whats you're asking for.
