    • Community UBports its future

Hello everyone, I am a user of Ubuntu Touch since February 2015, first developed by Canonical, and then developed by UBports since January 2018. I am using and enjoying this OS as my mainly drive. I have seen that UBports team is serious and dedicated to the project, maybe too much, as they are 24/7 working on it, just take a look at the Telegram groups.
UT has evolved and improved a lot until today. Now it has a very good visual and performance level, and thanks to the latest device ports you can use modern mobile phones.

It pains me to see that the project could go much better and that most of the users won't fully support it.
We need the whole community contributing and by that I mean the whole community, which is not the reality nowadays. I see that people think donating money is for others, that some other user who has more cash will donate, that we don't have so much money than others. We want a free OS with good apps, and we don't pay for it. Yes, great!

Ubuntu Touch could have been based on Ubuntu 20.04 a long time ago and we are still here on 16.04. What is the reason for this failure? Its users… those of us who use Ubuntu Touch, don't make any effort and don't care to fight for this. So, if UT stops being developed it won't matter either, because Android is better, right?

I do not understand it, we are more than 5000 users and the funding of this great project is nearly nothing, about 10% of users donate to UBports. I can understand those who live in countries with low purchasing power, countries mostly located in Asia, Africa or South America, but surely more than half of users live in countries with high purchasing power, even so, the amount of donations received is laughable and this is not a joke. UBports does not finance itself, you think of the expenses: lawyers, developers, servers, etc.
This petition is not only for the foundation, it is also for the app developers. App developers do not receive money for their hard work, I mean only few people have donated to them. Developers need money to eat, not just enough for a coffee. I have seen the money that some developers receive in Liberapay and is shameful: 1000 downloads of 1 app and we donate 20 € a year? Do you want good apps? Apps of all kinds, that are as cool as those of Android?

Well, it looks like in reality we don’t. The users of this community do not fork their money out. Developers are discouraged by the huge effort and leave, so we end up with apps that do not get updates and when we'll move to 20.04 will be left to rotten. Don't you think that we could change this?
An OS without apps is nothing. Ubuntu Touch being good is not enough if it is getting behind Ubuntu desktop.

I want you to think about another way to earn money, would you like to have ads on the UBports forum, like XDA developers do, or would you like to have ads in the apps you use often? It's a way to finance, others do it, why couldn't they do that?
Personally I don't like that idea, but maybe you do. There is one thing this OS is known about: its privacy and there is nothing private about ads. You go to XDA developers website and you will see the same ads as on the pages you browse, it's not very private, is it?

I would like that the 2500 users that live in developed countries would tell me that they can not contribute 5 € per month to UBports and app developers. 5 € you save in beers one day, tell me really… would it ruin you? Would it ruin your holidays?

I understand that there are so many monthly payments to do. You can't help everyone but this OS needs the donations from its users. A fixed donation per month, imagine it is sort of gas or electricity bill but in this case to help to support your favorite OS.

      • Do you want privacy?
      • Do you want an open source OS?
      • Do you want Ubuntu on your mobile?
      • Do you want a secure OS?
      • Do you want to use desktop apps on your mobile?
      • Do you want to use Android apps?
      • Do you want your mobile to be your computer?

If we don't move forward in 5 years we will continue as today, having an old and left behind OS.
We need more developers for Ubuntu Touch and more cool open source apps.

What are you waiting for? You are the solution to the problem, you can enjoy the best OS on your mobile, it can be done in a short time, we all have to support this project.

We need all the users of this community to donate money, those who can't, because of their low purchasing power 1€ a month is also a valuable contribution, those who live in countries with higher purchasing power could donate 5€, 10€, 15€, 20€ or more per month.

Guys, wake up. We have to help Marius, Florian, Alfred and all those community developers who make us enjoy Ubuntu Touch, the project has to go on like any flavour of Ubuntu, specially now that Dalton needs to recover, his exhaustion can only be fixed by himself, spending a lot of time resting, I hope he recovers and comes back to us.

      Thank you all...

    • RE: Pure maps navigation port

I am delighted with this Navigator, I am all day on the road and I need to look for many streets, I used Via Michelin because the map was all over the screen and the buttons annoyed little, also indicated me the state of traffic.
Pure Maps is at a very high level, it searches the streets well, it does it fast, it has a good design in general, it is intuitive and gives you a lot of information.
My thanks for this great app.

    • Convergence of Ubuntu touch on Panasonic TV

Good morning community, I have tested the convergence in Ubuntu touch and I have been pleasantly surprised, it is important that you have a powerful mobile and with the minimum requirements you need,
there are phones that will not be able to connect and others that can,

Depending on the phone there are two ways to connect to an external screen,

      • Via cable from the usb port as in the Nexus 5, this phone has MHL, that makes the phone has video output through the usb port.
if you use this way it is convenient to use a usb adapter so you have both power input and ability to access memory cards or pendrives.

      • Via wifi direct, two devices are paired using Miracast technology, Ubuntu uses Aethercast to pair with devices via mirroring, it is compatible with Miracast.
you can use a Miracast dongle that you connect to the HDMI port of the TV or connect directly to a TV via wifi,
After many attempts I have managed to pair my Xiaomi note 9 pro with my Panasonic TV (Firefox OS),

      • From the TV remote control we activate the main menu,
enter Network and look for mirroring settings,

      Captura de pantalla -2023-05-02 17-56-31.jpg

      • turn on easy mirroring,
        Captura de pantalla -2023-05-02 17-57-04.jpg

      • then we go up to network connection and we press,

      Captura de pantalla -2023-05-02 17-57-38.jpg

      • then a screen appears for the settings, select Custom to setup manually,

      Captura de pantalla -2023-05-02 17-58-07.jpg

      • appears the three possible settings, wired connection to the router, wifi connection to the router and the wireless access point that we will use to connect the TV with our mobile,

      Captura de pantalla -2023-05-02 17-58-53.jpg

      • Click to turn on the wireless access point,

      Captura de pantalla -2023-05-02 17-59-32.jpg

      • Now a window appears, it says several things,
it is better not to touch connection to device in WPS,
but we can change the settings
        connection name,
        connection key,
I advise that we put wireless type to 5 Ghz, for greater speed of connection, then we press to return,

      Captura de pantalla -2023-05-02 17-59-56.jpg

      • now we have the TV wireless connection activated, then we press back to exit the TV menu,

      Captura de pantalla -2023-05-02 18-00-59.jpg

      • Now we take the mobile to connect it to the Panasonic TV network, we ask for the key and connect the mobile, then in System Settings look for Brightness and display, enter this window and wait, do not touch anything,

      Captura de pantalla -2023-05-06 11-14-45.jpg

      • we take the remote control TV and click on HOME, then click on devices,

      Captura de pantalla -2023-05-02 18-01-21.jpg

      • we have the option of mirroring and we press,

      Captura de pantalla -2023-05-02 18-01-44.jpg

      • appears the option of connecting mirroring and press YES,

      Captura de pantalla -2023-05-02 18-02-10.jpg

      • when this window appears, we have 6 to 8 seconds to pair, take the mobile phone,

      Captura de pantalla -2023-05-02 18-02-30.jpg

      • on the mobile we switch on the external display, then quickly we press on wireless display, the mobile searches for a TV, when it is visible we press quickly to pair them. both must be paired,

      Captura de pantalla -2023-05-06 11-16-22.jpg

      • this window appears on the TV,
      • if this does not happen,on mobile quickly turn off the EXTERNAL DISPLAY
        and start again,
      • if the connection time expires, we must connect the wireless connection again and follow all the steps,

      Captura de pantalla -2023-05-02 18-02-56.jpg

      • if the devices are paired we will see UT convergent on the TV,
      • the mobile becomes a touchpad, we will see a dark screen with two buttons and another button for keyboard option,
now the mobile phone acts as a mouse, keyboard and speaker, but if you have those devices at home you can connect them via bluetooth and enjoy the convergence much more,

      • to disconnect the pairing, go to the main menu of the TV and in easy mirroring change the connection to off, then you will also have to change the TV connection if you want to watch Netflix,
      • the mobile recognizes the disconnection and returns to mobile mode.

    • RE: "UbuntuTouch" name

Hi guys, I think Ubuntu is a good name, Ubuntu phone was created by the Mark Shuttleworth team, I am proud that they made an alternative to Android and iphone,
they made a very strong bet on making this operating system, that now we follow the UBport community, I think the name is its origin, where the system comes from, to change the name will not have more impact on the world,

now I have Ubuntu on my mobile and on my computer.
I use Ubuntu Mate, but there is also a family behind Ubuntu, ...Gnome, Unity, Lubuntu, Xubuntu, Kubuntu...

If you talk about Linux, the first word that comes to mind is Ubuntu, although there are many Linux distros and very important, Debian, Red Hat, Fedora Linux Mint......

I think it's better to continue with the name of the Ubuntu family.

Hi everyone, I want to show you an idea about the Phone app, in the android phones appears a great picture of your contact.

I like something more discreet, that if you go on the bus, those behind you do not see who calls you on the mobile.

Download an image, place it on the screen of your mobile to its real position, you will see how the image really looks.

    • RE: PinePhone

@GizmoChicken I share your dream of having version 20.04 on the Pinephone, that would be very exciting for the one who has a phone with Linux and without android. However, you have to be realistic, if there were more people donating to Ubports we would have more developers on the team.

I think it is better to have a Pinephone with a good software in 16.04 in which the phone and its applications work well, than a bad software in 20.04, with malfunctions, crashes or restarts. Furthermore, keep in mind that every app has to be updated.

      Haste always brings problems.

When people buy a new phone they don't want problems, they want a software that is stable and works perfectly.

      I opt for stability...

I think the new Unity makes the background clear, I can finally have a family photo there, a great landscape, an eagle, a beach.
To that background you can add things, shortcuts, documents, notes, those quick view things and you can grab them quickly,
Widgets can also be added. more options for Ut

That could be future stuff, we're at a different point now.

    • RE: Redmi Note 7 / State of play

      @stanwood
Perfect, I installed Ut on the Xiaomi Note 7, strange things happened to me, but it's done.
I created a Xiaomi account from the mobile that I have associated with gmail for verification, I inserted a sim card by associating a number, then I will get a verification SMS, then I put it in developer mode and also Usb debugging.

I used the most current Xiaomi unlock app (https://c.mi.com/thread-2262302-1-0.html) which I had placed on the Xindows 10 desktop,
I tried several times to make it work with the phone connected in fastboot, there was no response. then I downloaded an older version and tried again, I put my Xiaomi account data again and click on some sites and it installs something on the phone or computer ... I do not remember, then in the most current app I saw that he had recognized the phone and click on unlock.
the mobile that was in fastboot restarts and stays the MIUI mobile logo for a while, just boot the phone in android, but It unlocked the bootloader at the time, I've been crazy.

The mobile had been restored to factory settings, the mobile was empty.
android 10 only, with the padlock open. I check in the developer mode place and it was UNLOCKED.

I download Recovery orangefox (https://www.miui.net.in/orange-fox-twrp-for-redmi-note-7-lavender/#Key_Features) and install it on the Xiaomi Note 7 .....put in terminal…. sudo fastboot flash recovery and drag the file to the terminal, so I was left to me....... sudo fastboot flash recovery '/home/jose/OrangeFox-R10-017-RC-lavender.img'.

When I boot it says: Failed decryption of data, I press to do so and does not work, restart the phone and I don't see the Xiaomi Recovery, I do not believe it.
After asking in the telegram channel DrHax tells me that with Android 10 Ubports Installer works.
The phone is in fastboot and I reinstall the Recovey Orangefox again, I reboot the phone to Recovery and does not ask me anything like about decrypting DATA,

I connect it to the PC with Ubuntu on a USB 2.0 port, the phone is in developer mode and usb debugging enabled, the phone asks me with a popup window if I give usb debugging permissions ...I press that YES
On my PC I have already installed ADB and Fastboot , I open the terminal and put ...sudo adb devices ... and the terminal returns a number and devices , the PC recognizes the mobile.

I used the SNAP installer, it's the one that worked the first time, the Appimage told me that my computer dependencies were missing and the .deb could not find the app I needed to install.
I open the Ubports installer and it detects the mobile, which was with the Recovery open, I click on install Ubuntu 16.04/Stable, wipe data and I click it to install,
It open Firefox Browser on a page to download Lineage16..it is android 9, I download it to the desktop, I click on a box that says vendor.zip, it opens a window to find the file ( lineage-16,0-20200226-vendor.zip ), I click install ,the phone switches to fastboot and Lineage 16 is installed and then Ubuntu touch is installed.
When I see that Ut boots on the Xiaomi I was very happy,

      this has happened to me,

      Thank you standwood...

    • Install Ut on Xiaomi Note 9 pro

      Hi all.

I bought a Xiaomi Note 9 Pro Global, MIUI 12 with Android 10 and I have installed Ubuntu Touch on it. Android 10 must be installed because it is built on Halium 10.

The price of this phone was 240 € brand new. I got it from Mediamarkt, Madrid, Spain. It is still available new in some places, as it is a high-end device. It can be bought second hand for between 150 and 200 €.

Before inserting a SIM card or connect it to a wifi network, I blocked the updates, so that the phone would not update.

To unlock the bootloader, create a Xiaomi account from the phone, you can add your current Google account. You must add the phone number associate to the device.

Download the Mi Unlock App here: https://c.mi.com/thread-2262302-1-0.html available for Windows 10. Run it and login with the account create above and connect the phone to the computer. Once started, you must wait about 155 hours to unlock the device.

If the phone doesn’t come with Android 10, a new rom must be installed. Look here and download the version for your phone: https://github.com/ubuntu-touch-miatoll/ubuntu-touch-miatoll/blob/main/FIRMWARE.md
The following link is valid one and works WAYDROID :

Redmi Note 9 Pro Global EEA
      Stable
      Fastboot
      V12.0.1.0.QJZEUXM
      Android 10.0

      Captura de pantalla -2022-04-23 13-21-12.png

You also need the Xiaomi program to flash your phone , download for Windows 10 MIUI ROM Flashing Tool https://c.mi.com/oc/miuidownload/detail?guide=2
when flashing the phone see if it has the option to not lock the bootloader, it must be unlocked.

The rest of the process, I did them on Ubuntu 20.04.

Install ADB and FASTBOOT on the PC via the terminal typing:
      sudo apt install android-tools-adb android-tools-fastboot
Turn on the phone with Android 10 installed, and enable Developer mode and USB Debugging.

Connect the phone to the computer with a cable in a USB 2.0 port. USB 3.0 ports doesn’t work.

      Open a terminal and type:
      adb devices
      You’ll see something like:

      $ adb devices
      List of devices attached
      * daemon not running; starting now at tcp:5037
      * daemon started successfully
      8xxxxxxx	unauthorized

A pop-up window will appears on the phone screen. Tap on accept to authorize USB Debugging.
      Then, on the terminal type:
      adb devices
      You will see something like:

      $ adb devices
      List of devices attached
      8xxxxxxx	device

This shows the id of your mobile phone and “device”. This means that it is properly connected.

Next, install the UBports Installer 0.9.5 on your computer. It is available as an appimage, .deb and in snap packeges.

Start the UBports Installer. It should detect the mobile model if it connected to the computer and turned on.
Check that the mobile model is correct and set the channel to Stable, 16.04 and enable both, the
      “Wipe data” and “Bootstrap” options.

Press Install to start downloading the files needed to the computer.
Then, the installer will try to reboot the device in fastboot mode. If this fails, you’ll have to do it manually: Turn the phone off and then turn it on pressing volume down and power buttons at the same time. Don’t unplug the phone from the computer for the installer to continue with the installation.

Once a purple screen with the name Ubuntu Touch appears on the mobile screen, the OS is installed. Congratulations.

      Xiaomi Note 9 Pro porting
      BackMarket

This phone works very well, I use it daily with Ubuntu Touch,
To get the phone to recognise both SIMs, first insert one SIM and make calls, then turn the phone off and you can insert both SIM cards, now both SIMs work.

      It has some issues,

Occasionally the sound drops in volume when using various apps that use sound or the microphone stops working with the recorder app.
The front camera does not work in video calls.
If you use Waydroid the GPS does not work, you must restart UT to get it working again on UT.

    • RE: Morph Icon Proposal

Hi everyone, I love the logo presented by @Cibersheep, it's original and I think it would represent well the Morph Browser. I also agree with Lakotaubp's opinion and I have made a small modification to the logo.

      I hope you like it,

      greetings...

    • RE: Redmin Note 9 Pro doubt - Fake/Virtual 8GB of RAM?

@pe3noATo2DOTpl Each phone has its own chip and gpu, the porter makes a phone with certain CPU and GPU work on UT, if your phone does not match our note 9 pro, it will never work UT, you can even lock the phone forever.
ram memory is not important, except for using more apps at the same time.
