Since I've updated Waydroid to the latest version (Waydroid 1.51, Android 13) in most cases there is no internet connection in Waydroid. The log says “unable to connect to 192.168.240.112: 5555: No route to host”.
I’ve tried everything I found on the internet.
The strange thing is: From time-to-time Waydroid DOES connect to the phone and everything works fine. But I’m not able to reproduce this behavior. Although I repeat all the steps that seem to have led to a working system before, like rebooting, restarting, reinstalling, resetting internet connections on the phone and in Waydroid in a special order, it usually fails.
Updating Waydroid and Ubuntu touch doesn’t change anything.
On another OnePlus 5T everything is the same.
There seems to be any random mechanism working, when Waydroid tries to get an ethernet connection to the host ...
    Any ideas?
Or anyone facing such problems on similar or other devices?

@ma Thank you, I will try that!

    Hi everyone!

I migrated uNav to focal, but after enabling the GPS, if I enter into a QML dialog (Search or Settings) and exit, the UI is frozen. The bug comes from here.

Any idea please? Thank you in advance!

    PS: How to reproduce:

    1. Open uNav in focal.
    2. Enable the GPS. (If I don't enable the GPS, the UI will not freeze).
    3. Click on Settings icon (top bar).
    4. Click on Back button (top bar).
    5. Bug: UI is frozen.

The code I think is this one.

Just as @applee, I suspect that this thread possibly discusses several different bugs. Notably, I believe the problem described in reply #3, and maybe by @kristatos are the same as the one I described in this other topic. The issue in that other topic is related to how UBports interfaces with the android gps drivers and it affects all apps using gps on all ported android phones released since around 2020, but possibly with app-dependent symptoms : freezing, crashing, or just going on with a frozen location. The good news is that the other topic's bug has a working fix which should hopefully land in an upcoming OTA.

Heya, I'm a student who's got plenty time on their hands since my college hasn't started yet. In the meantime I've been actively testing Ubuntu Touch and have noticed how the devices page and other documentations lack updates. I unfortunately don't have a pc right now so I can't contribute in coding and development as of right now but I can offer to help in all kinds of documentation building stuff since I'm quite passionate about writing in general and I really wanna help the community however I can.

I will do this by keeping myself updated on new developments, talking to community members and ofcourse testing things myself.

So I'd like to ask, is this a welcomed effort??

    • xcx ❤

@gpatel-fr ahaha I am running a dualboot setup as of right now mostly cuz I need it for college work, though I don't switch back to it that often cuz usually Waydroid does the job just fine. I don't mind using the web app via morph but my current setup is quite snappy so I don't think that should be an issue!

    Hello everyone,

I figured I would make videos about Ubuntu Touch, to contribute spreading the word.

I'm thinking about making videos to present my applications, reviews/demonstration/tests of the system in general, and possibly videos where I explain why I'm using Ubuntu Touch, and how I got to it.

Here is my first video presenting the application Maps exporter:

    English version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GR0eqz7wpyM
    French version: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rOJkiSa28Ss

This is still quite experimental so if you have feedback on how to improve the videos for the next time feel free to do so! 😉

@pparent Much appreciated! I think these will be super useful.

I bought a used Quintus with VollaOS 15 on it. The multiboot function didn't work. So I installed Ubuntu Touch 24.04-1.0 stable on it using the UBPorts installer. A very nice person on https://t.me/hello_volla explained to me that it wasn't necessary to downgrade. That seems important to me.
The installer even took care of unlocking the bootloader. The entire installation went smoothly. Great!
Almost everything works, even Dekko2, notifications, word completion, camera including video recording. I have 5G and I think even Volte (how can I check that exactly?).
Unlike what is stated here: https://devices.ubuntu-touch.io/device/algiz/, I can't get the headphones to work via the USB output, but that doesn't bother me. Fingerprint does not work too, but thats a known issue and doesn't bother me either.
One small bug: In the launcher, the Dekko2 icon doesn't stop counting; only restarting Lomiri resets the number.
    Overall, I'm totally amazed!

There's also a Telegram channel for UT: https://t.m/utonvolla. Unfortunately, I don't know the Matrix chat (anyone?).
So this is my new daily driver and I will report issues from time to time. Thanks to all the Volla and UT devs for their amazing work on this port.

@bunchy7s Note that the Oneplus 3 port isn't even listed on the main devices page. The page @moem dug up says that the last work on it was in 2021 and is for UT 16.04, which is quite out of date. And the video you followed is four years old. I can't say that your issues are definitely caused by how out of date it is, but I can say that you're unlikely to have a good experience of Ubuntu Touch on that device. Unless you want to take up the reins and bring the Oneplus 3 port up to date, I'd say your best bet to try UT is to read around on the forum and device pages and try to find a supported device that suits your needs and is affordable and available in your area. Also of note: some people have difficulty with putting a phone back to android, so do your homework on that before attempting.. people have bricked their devices.

    I have a working build for 20.04: https://github.com/paulcarroty/indicator-upower

Feel free to test it. Submitting /sys/class/power_supply/ will be helpful in adding support for your device.

The Indicator Upower now supports battery charging limit on MTK and other devices - don't forget to reinstall indicator if this feature didn't work in older releases.

Hi I'm looking at buying a N10 5g as I've found a really good deal on one, but calling, sms, and mms are all must haves for me. And as I have no 2g or 3g in my area volte has to work. Any of you guys have volte working? And if so would you consider the phone daily drivable with UBtouch? Also how do the cameras perform? Thanks!

@chaosmaou T-Mobile works well for me. I tried Ting first, but had issues. I didn't bother to troubleshoot knowing from others that T-Mobile worked. So, I just switched and happy with the results. Good luck!

Before then, if you have any questions on or about Ubuntu Touch and UBports please post them below and we will do our best to answer them in the Q&A.

Remember that questions on porting to device **** or its status, and questions on bugs, will not be answered.

hello we have an exchange about the indicator area. we propose 3 questionning way : Is it a good idea to add a usb menu : to connect the device (charging/file exchange/connection sharing) ? we found there is too much icons. so,what about 'group' some indicators by familly ? link : for usb link, bluetooth... interface : keyboard, rotation, (external display in the futur) the usage of the file icon seems not clear : no many apps use it. is it pertinent to group it with somthing else ? thanks. https://forums.ubports.com/topic/12034/usb-parameters-on-headband

Was anyone successful in establishing a ProtonVPN connection on Noble?

I tried manual setup via GUI but it was not clear to me how the parameters in the openvpn file map to the fields in the VPN settings, went through documentation and forum posts with no clear solution.

Next, I tried the nmcli import method as described here: (https://forums.ubports.com/topic/10154/vpn-import-openvpn-and-wireguard-configurations-using-networkmanager-nmcli?_=1772844580125&loggedin=true)

The connection is listed, I entered username and password via settings GUI but when activating it, the connection timed out.

I would be very grateful if someone who has a working ProtonVPN setup could share how this was achieved.

    Thanks

@kugiigi said: You can try Wireguard. It doesn't have GUI yet in UT but the commands are simple. Download the Wireguard config file from your Proton account. Rename it to wg0.conf. Then run nmcli conn import type wireguard file wg0.conf To connect: nmcli conn up wg0 To disconnect: nmcli conn down wg0 Thank you this worked. Interestingly the forum webapp does not conncect on wg. Is here another way to toggle wg connections on and off than using the terminal? They are not listed as VPN connections.

Hi. I currently testing the BETA port of UT for the Fairphone 5.

On the way I tried to get Signal running. After a lot of tinkering I got it to work in Libertine.

I thought other Ubuntu Touch user might find this useful too because there is no nativ signal client.

The UI is usable after some tweaking and all feature except video-calls work flawless. Even notification when the screen is off 😄

(BOTH IMAGE LOADING AND ENTER/DELETE HAVE WORKAROUNDS NOW! NOT VERY GOOD ONCE BUT THEY ARE THERE! SEE REPLYS OR BLOG ENTRY):
Well… nearly all. One issue is still that the On Screen keyboard can not hit enter or backspace text. A USB-Keyboard still works though. Tried to create a custom Keyboard Layout but did not succeed until yet.

If someone has an idea to get the Keyboard full working PLS let me know.

Hope someone thinks this is helpful 🙂
And be warned. The setup involves A LOT OF jank xD

(If linking to external source is not welcome i can also just copy past it here. Just let me know if that’s the case 🙂 )

@projectmoon The main problem that currently prevents using Wayland for electron apps, is that the On-Screen-Keyboard cannot work with GTK+Wayland+Mir1.x . By the way the Merezhyvo Browser ( popriatary app ! ) is an electron app using Wayland, but it has found it's way around this problem by coding it's own OSK inside the app itself, which is not really a way I want to go. (Especially for Signal because I want to modify the code only as strictly necessary, and also because for Signal there are other problems when it comes to using it in Wayland mode with Mir1.x). Anyway I've already tried it (see in the Signal UT topic), and reallu the best is to wait for Mir2.x, I hope it won't be in too long.

Can i suggest to add the usb parmeters (choice between file tranfert, charging or data sharing) on the principal headband : it will be easyer to use when connecting to computer.
It is probably complicate to do, but it will be a good feature in my opinion.

@DJac there is still no question for the Q&A of today so this is your chance for the limelight

    Hello everyone,

I'm currently using Focal on a Google Pixel 3a as daily driver, and I would prefer to wait a bit before upgrading it to Noble. But I would also like to start porting an app I'm writing to the latest UT platform.

Could you please tell me which phone would provide the best user experience (considering a scenario where it would be imaged with Noble straight away, not upgraded from Focal, and use the latest available version, not /stable)?

Side question: do we still need to start from Android 9 before installing Noble?

Thanks in advance for any recommendation.

I use a Fairphone 4 on channel 24.04/daily. When I did my research and asked the same questions you have, I came to the conclusion that USB3.0 display port with a wired connection to HDMI monitor was superior to any other USB2.0 device which has to use some kind of other technology to connect to another screen, but can connect a USB keyboard and a mouse. From my USBC3.0 display out decision I figured out that Fairphone 4 or 5 would be suitable although very expensive. The next question was if 6GB RAM would be enough (yes it is enough), or if I need 8GB RAM. I have started with the banking app world with Waydroid. It looks promising as it seems that banking apps have changed their restrictions and are ok with running on waydroid. 4.9 GiB RAM is being used while having waydroid and all other kinds of apps open, but swapping of 900 MiB has started to appear. sysctl vm.swappiness equals 100 (=max) so I lowered it to 1 to see what happens. So far no crashes. It still appears to be enough with 6GB RAM to run waydroid and apps. Waydroid in desktop mode on a 24 inch monitor 1920x1080 needs completely different settings than in native portrait mode 6.5 inches and I haven't figured out how to make waydroid look good in both modes. I chose landscape mode and seem to be stuck in those settings even after disconnecting the HDMI monitor, so obviously I made the wrong decision adapting waydroid to landscape desktop mode 1920x1080. For banking you would obviously want to use LibreOffice Calc next to waydroid side by side and copy-paste between waydroid and LibreOffice. Waydroid seems to require full screen landscape in desktop mode with huge text, although it would probably be ok with portrait mode waydroid on half of the monitor screen. Waydroid may need some fine tuning on Fairphone 4. It looks promising. I think it is more practical to use a Linux Desktop for banking stuff at the moment if you need to use spreadsheets at the same time. Fairphone 5 is the only one still being sold. Fairphone 4 is much harder to find. Usually there are sales on Fairphone 5 during times like Black Friday, but there are no units in stock to be sold over the counter, only online sales. There is a lot of writing about shifting customer support, lack of spare parts like extra batteries, extra USBC-ports and price point, which made me hesitate a lot. It didn't get better to see 12GB RAM Pixel 9/10 sell-outs for as little as 270 €, but of course: There is no port! I landed in that it is probably wiser to wait until a cheap 12-16GB RAM device with USB3 display out is ported. Fairphone 5 was the only option available at the time so it was either to accept it and be ok with the price point or wait until something like Redmi 18C with USB3 arrives and sells out for 100 €. The frustration is on my part that you have to anticipate which device will most probably be ported in the future and buy it when it sells out, maybe years before it gets ported. You can't easily get such a device later. On top you have this whole locked bootloader unlocking process and downgrading android if you are lucky to own a device which gets ported in the future. In that sense, it was Fairphone or nothing for me. Learning about repair disasters from this forum, I would think twice to go for Fairphone with what I know today. If you have 700 € and consider it worth taking a short term risk, go for a new Fairphone, it is definitely good enough for now. If no 700 € exist , I would personally with the knowledge I now have wait until another cheap 12-16 GB RAM device with USB3 that you can still buy appears in the Ubuntu Touch device list. Android 16 is supposed to offer desktop mode, which might push developers of devices to put in USB3. It is also common with 6000mAh batteries now and tablets most often have even more battery power. I am aware of that it might take time until more devices are ported. I have been looking around for posts how users with USB2 devices solve the display out need without affecting internet connection, WiFi speeds and so on. WiFi-7 is another thing that starts popping up and that I personally think is going to become my requirement for future devices. 32 GB RAM seems to become the new norm on desktops, given that many wish to run local ai models which apparently need 20GB RAM to run 14B models on the graphic card. My Fairphone 4 is good for all I am testing out, which is generally making it into a PC using wifi. I don't use mobile data that much at the moment. My focus is to make the device useful for everything you need in daily life, on any kind of internet connection. Calls can be made via Signal, Linphone, matrix.org, so I don't really need anything more than some sort of internet. Zoom app is another thing to be aware about that does not work on Linux ARM, but probably does work in Waydroid. Raspberry Pi 5 with 16GB would probably be another cheap PC that fits inside your pocket, although it's wifi is reported to drop speed drastically once you move away a couple of meters from the WiFi-5 access point. It does lack a good form factor with the extra board needed for SSD hard drive to get better speed, so it is not really an option to carry around. It's ai capabilities are not super either. Which is why I went for a Fairphone and am trying to get all what I need to work properly on it. I think it is the only option right now, which unfortunately makes me who want USB3 become more dependent on one supplier who can do what they want. I don't like that, but it is what it is right now. Overall I am more than ok with my Fairphone 4. It is not bad at all, but it is an expensive toy. Maybe I was lucky to get a good unit too. It has not broken yet. You still need to be tech savvy to get everything to work the way you wish in Fairphone 4. Not much comes ready out of the box on Fairphone 4 compared to a ten year old computer with latest Linux Desktop. I would not give Ubuntu Touch to others today to use even though they already adopted Linux desktops over Windows and Apples. It is in my opinion still too complex for a newbie regular user who prefers Android and such that has been around longer. I fear I would become a constant PC support for others if I promoted Ubuntu Touch to them today. 2-3 years from now I think Ubuntu Touch will be much better for the large crowds who are not tech enthusiasts. For me personally Ubuntu Touch is good enough already today for most things I need, including python3 scripting, API calls, JSON-data and LibreOffice. Copy-paste issues in Libertine, scrolling with mouse and screenshots of individual windows and regions like you do on a Linux Desktop is my biggest concern right now. Protonvpn I wish to get working and there seems to be a way with using wireguard (search the forum to find the post). I noticed that the old PS2 mouses work better than new gaming mouses in desktop mode. Connecting other things to Fairphone 4 is for me more important than I thought previously. A couple of days ago I was able to mount a USB pendrive, today I didn't succeed to mount an external USB storage.

    Hi there
I am having some issues finding a proper remote desktop tool for Ubuntu Touch (20.4), does anyone have some advice for me? I want to use the phone as a "client" for a network project in school, remoting into it and showing that it still gets a DHCP address, and can access the internet when plugged into a L2 switch.

@kugiigi Thank you, will check it out ^^
