    Hi,
I would like to connect my Fairphone 4 with usb to my computer, using it as modem for gnome-calls.
I have no idéa how to activate the phone as a modem. When I connect my Ubuntu phone with my Ubuntu Pc, gnome-calls just looks like this: (No modem available). Any suggestions?

you need to go to settings and set your usb to tethering ....there is your internet connection it should just work when you plug it in and connect ...if im understanding you correctly?

    Download here:

    https://open-store.io/app/futify.brennoflavio

Somewhere last year, Spotify changed some of its API deprecating some fields and redirects, breaking Futify. Around 3 months ago I submited some patches to keep the app alive, but it is not merged / released yet.

This fork applies those patches so people can continue using the app while upstream is not updated.

Contributions are welcome to make it build with noble framework, currently this app uses a umantained qml-go binding, that only allow building for focal. Luckly the focal build works on noble without issues.

Give it a try and leave feedback!

    @brenno.almeida welcome

    Named "Open Slate":

    3. MKT Genio 720 specifications: https://www.mediatek.com/products/iot/genio-iot/genio-720

Note: about "mainline linux kernel" (or near mainline kernel and anyway recent kernel) for Ubuntu Touch, it's a guess on my part.

One of the most interesting parts of this for me is the focus on mainline kernel support. A lot of alternative mobile/Linux devices struggle long-term because of outdated vendor kernels and limited maintenance. If the hardware can stay close to upstream Linux, that could make the device much more sustainable over time for the UBports community.
  • D

    Hi UBports community,

I discovered Ubuntu Touch recently and feel very enthusiastic about it, as an alternative to current mainstream options.

But it is difficult to estimate where it is, in terms of user experience. I watched a couple of videos, and it seems still in a clearly "early adopter" phase.

Was wondering whether it could make sense to publish a table or roadmap outlining the exact features, services and improvements that are missing to match the Android/iOS user experience. This would help potential users, as well as developers to identify quickly where to help, and possibly also funders, who could more easily understand viability.

I imagine that there's a well organized board of technical issues, but this still is meaningful to give a more general overview, to a wider audience, and more specific about the gap to mainstream platforms.

    Thank you!

ill edit this part later im tired ...works more or less ... it needs feedback to make the precious

known bugs is the same semi-hang bug when previewing your webpage as ppsspp ...it wont show up unless you unfocus the app then switch back in this case the browser ....idk why but it does host webpages and i can access them from other devices on my LAN ....more bugs too im sure but it works
....pretty sure thats the right folder ...anyways

no screen shots for this one as its just a fail on desktop same reason as xmrig but when it errors it more epic looking see:

Although it isn’t highlighted in DeltaTouch’s description on the OpenStore (https://open-store.io/app/deltatouch.lotharketterer) DeltaTouch is listed among the apps compatible with webxdc (https://webxdc.org) which provide "Secure mini apps for chats, Play games or collaborate, privately".

Does anyone use these mini apps?

DeltaTouch is one of my favorites in the Open Store. It’s the perfect way to replace any messaging app. There are also excellent DeltaTouch apps for iPhone and Android. It’s hard to convince parents and kids to use DeltaTouch. That’s because WhatsApp has integrated “Channels” into its app since 2023. What are “Channels”? They’re kind of like OnlyFans for kids and teens.

    Brax3, a new Ubuntu Touch compatible device : https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/brax3-the-most-privacy-friendly-smartphone#/

The question is, who (which devs) will provide the portage and how long will it be maintained?

@libremax This represents a change of direction (as I understand it). Eric H, who is one of the testers, was just as surprised as I was by this announcement. To be continued... I’m not complaining; the Brax3 is a great phone and IodéOS is a great AOSP. I hope the porting can continue (the latest image didn’t allow the phone to be used for making calls).

I just received some NFC tags to play around with today ...
but now I cant find the NFC toggle on the phone.
I remember using it on the 24.04 stable but after upgrading to RC3, I cant find it.

@projectmoon ..... WTF, it wasnt there but now it is!! Luckily I took a screenshot of when it wasnt there. How do I share images on the forum?

    Hi,

I would like to report a successful mobile network test on Fairphone 5 with Ubuntu Touch 24.04 daily in Japan.

    Device:
    Fairphone 5

    Ubuntu Touch:
    24.04-1.x daily
    Channel: 24.04-1.x/arm64/android9plus/daily
    OS build: 24.04-1.x (2026-04-29)
    Kernel: 5.4.302-qgki-g4ddb22d91965 (arm64)
    Device image: 20260225-31133

    Carrier:
    LINE Mobile Japan, SoftBank network

    APN:
    Name: LINE mobile
    APN: line.me
    Username: line@line
    Password: line
    Authentication: PAP
    Protocol: IPv4 / ip
    Type: internet
    Preferred: true

    Confirmed working:

    • Mobile network registration
    • Mobile data
    • Incoming calls
    • Outgoing calls
    • SMS sending
    • SMS receiving

    Notes:
At first, the SIM did not work. oFono repeatedly showed:
    data reg changed 2 -> 3 (denied), attached 0
    data reg changed 3 -> 2 (searching), attached 0

Trying to activate the APN context failed with:
    org.ofono.Error.NotAttached: GPRS is not attached

I manually configured the LINE Mobile APN, enabled RoamingAllowed, removed the automatically created SoftBank jpspir APN context, and also performed a daily-channel system update.

After leaving the phone idle for a while, it eventually registered successfully. I cannot yet determine whether the fix was caused by the update, APN/oFono changes, removing jpspir, a delayed network registration, or a combination of these.

This may be useful for Japanese users trying to use SoftBank-based MVNO SIMs on Fairphone 5 with Ubuntu Touch.

Just for info the "daily" version of UT is not for daily use, but for testing frequent updates (daily updates). So be aware anything could break (or get fixed ^^) after any update. Stable is for daily use.

firstly: generally on my "small penguin" (very custom samsung ported with ubuntu 20.04 exactly) i have waydroid severely broken (doesn't even open) so no android apps, same with flatpak and snapd (only downloadable .deb's , apt, openstore, maybe appimage, web/pwa or - in worst case - from source works actually).

secondly: tried gimp (from apt) and it'd be usable but only if i connected phone to bigger display and connected mouse, but for normal usage - nope too (like - turns on and everything but ui isn't scaled properly and some menu items i have hidden under screen curves, not saying that it simply crashes after like 15 minutes of work, probably cause of ram/cpu/gpu issues).

thirdly: on laptop i mostly use pixelorama (only sometimes gimp when want to add effects) and for laptop it's perfect but using same thing via web (on itch.io) have problems like no file export and some other glitches (tried on phone web version too but nope).

    and what i'm searching for:
for a free pixel editor (think - aseprite/pixelorama) with support of both colorpicker and palettes (either text/image file or lospec) and export to a NORMAL file (png/ico/jpeg/whatev). may be on web, may be ub-touch native, may be "desktop". optionally may have animation/layer support but without it i'm also fine (magick in cli can do gifs).
and best if was touchscreen friendly with multi-finger zoom (imagine trying to tap over 128x128 or maybe even gameboy canvas/tileset without zoom on a phone, heh).

    PS:
yep i already searched whole openstore and found nothing.

@hacknorris said: on laptop i mostly use pixelorama You probably don't see it because you are on noble, but if you can port it or find someone willing to do it this exists under xenial : https://open-store.io/app/pixelorama.orama-interactive You can also try to force install it on noble but with high risk of malfunctions.

    An announcement from https://chaos.social/@sd/116510612562459125 :
"I made the initial code for #ubuntutouch for the Pixel 9a public now: https://git.deusch.me/ubports/device-google-tegu

The repository has instructions for flashing. But be aware that this is very experimental and not ready for daily use. Also again the disclaimer that AI was involved and a lot of the patches are for sure not done the proper way. You’ve been warned!"

A mature port for Pixel9a would be amazing because this device include an USB Type-C 3.1 port, so using UT as a desktop with a wired connection to an external screen is possible.

@steffend I understand now why my search for Pixel9a on the forum didn't get anything, it because of the space... and that's why I don't include it to make searching easier.

For anyone with Meizu Pro 5 who might have a trouble to install a new 16.04 OTA-4 on Pro 5, I created a full clean install of 16.04/stable to by restored with TWRP.
    Here is the link.

@Stefano Hello! I've had my phone for a few years now, but it's been sitting in the drawer for a while. I couldn't put the Ubuntu system back on from the Flyme system. But now I finally did it and thanks to you I now have the "latest system" on it I'm happy now! Thank you very much! It's true that it won't be for everyday use anymore (I'm using a 6-year-old Huawei Mate 40 Pro Plus on it), but I'm glad that I managed to put Ubuntu on the Meizu

    Dear UT community,

I have two devices running Ubuntu Touch 24.04 (stable) (FP4 and Lenovo M10 Gen2). Unfortunately, when accessing certain websites (especially my private Matrix server (a subdomain of my private homepage), but also regularly the search with DuckDuckGo), the Wi-Fi connection is unstable in Morph-Browser or the Cinny UT app. In Morph the error "Error: net::ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED" is displayed. In the logs of Cinny the error messages "QObject::killTimer: Timers cannot be started from another thread" and "js: /sync error %s ConnectionError fetch failed: Failed to fetch" stands out. Strangely enough, these sites are accessible in the Min browser or the Waydroid browser. But when I run a ping command in the terminal, I get "Name or service unknown" (though I can ping the IP address).

Has anyone else had similar issues? What could be causing this?

    I'd really appreciate any help!

    Best regards,
    Max

Changing the DNS server solved the problem

I am trying to install custom rom (ubuntu touch at first) on my device:
Asus zenfone Max pro M1 - ZB602KL (dual sim)

    But, i can't unlock oem (bootload ?)

I try many way to solve it :
1 - become developer of the device
then, Unlock usb debugging (no problem) and unlock oem (but, THE CASE DON'T EXISTE on the parameters)

2 - So, I tap ##CHECKIN## on the phone interface (I get the return "checkin succed"), but the case "oem unlock" not appeared.

    3 - I tried to unlock with a unlock tool (https://www.thecustomdroid.com/unlock-bootloader-install-twrp-root-asus-zenfone-max-pro-m1/), but it doesn't works :
sometime, the bootloader shutdown and ask to reboot, sometime, the phone reset, but nothing more...

    4 - I tried various fastboot commandes :
fastboot oem unlock - 'unknown command'
fastboot flashing unlock - 'unknown command'

    5 - I tried some rooting apps :
    ASUS "official" Unlock Tool
    Magisk
    Kingo root
    ... but doesn't works

    Nota :
I notice the UBport installer detect my kernel as ASUS_X00T_2 (and it is)
I notices that the fastboot commandes not always work : the commande 'fastboot oem device-info
' give sometime 'FAILED - unknown command' an sometime the answer needed... (without reason)
I read that the AMD processor of my computer can cause difficulties with ASUS's fastboot mode...

Is there an other solution to unlock the bootloader ?

@MrT10001 hey, i was able to unlock my bootloader i found a guide on XDA to edit my registories on windows regarding USB ports. Usb3fix.txt FOR ANYONE READING THIS. PLEASE SAVE THOSE LINE IN A TEXT FILE AND CHANGE THE EXTENSION TO .bat AND THEN RUN IT AS ADMINISTRATION. then i could run the unlock.cmd file and it ran flowlessly. thank you for your help.

So i changed work location, and i noticed last week that i was connected to wi-fi.... i have never ever connected myself to this router...

The name of the Wifi Network is the same as my old work location, does that mean it only checks name and password? no SSID check or anything?

If that is the case i could easily make a hotspot to make people connect to me instead of the real network.

@ikoz i see, so it is that easy on public hotspots in general unregardless of the os i use, that uhh sucks

First and foremost, no I'm not implementing proper touchpad support in Lomiri. Mainly because I don't know how 😅
I initially thought QML has a module or component for it but turns out there's none. I guess touchpads aren't as standardized as mouse?

Anyway, I'm actually experimenting with the virtual touchpad instead since it'll be much easier for my skill level. However, I'm not exactly a touchpad user (on my Steam Controller yes LOL). I rarely use a laptop and when I do, I use an external mouse. So I don't really know what's expected from it especially the modern ones.

Here's a video showcasing the gestures I experimented with.
    https://youtu.be/xDXpPVnWaGQ?si=8qxr1PWXGkqINH8N

Basically, I tried to mimic the current touchscreen gestures in Lomiri but not sure if they would actually be useful. I'm thinking, it's nice to move and resize windows with a gesture but it might be better to be able to quickly open the drawer or switch between apps using the 3-finger gestures instead.

Unlike most of my experiments, I'm confident that I can actually propose this to upstream Lomiri since it doesn't really need skills that I don't have. So I would like to ask for people's opinion on this and maybe this would be basis once proper touchpad support were implemented.

One last thing, you may suggest pinch to zoom and such and although that's cool, Samsung DeX has it, but I don't know how to implement that LOL
I'm talking more on simple swipe and taps that 😄

    Thanks!

Indra is now available on the OpenStore!

    https://next.open-store.io/app/indra.projectmoon/

This thread will serve as a sort of unofficial support thread for now. Proper issues/bugs/feature requests should be done on the issue tracker.

Indra is a Ubuntu Touch app for off-grid communication using LoRa (long range) mesh radios. You can text friends, family, and neighbors without an internet connection. Messages are sent via the radio, which connects to other radios nearby to form a network completely separate from traditional communication infrastructure.

You need an external radio to use this app. They are cheap to build or buy, and a one-time investment in off-grid communication. Indra currently supports radios running Meshtastic® firmware. You can connect to your radio over Bluetooth, the local network, or a USB cable (depending on your radio).

The app currently does not support configuring or setting up your radio; please use the Android/iOS app or the Meshtastic® web client at https://client.meshtastic.org to set up your radio or change its settings.

This is a work-in-progress app. The initial release supports what the author considers the essential, core features of Meshtastic®. Currently supported features:

    • Connect to a configured radio over Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, or USB.
    • Send messages to public channels, private channels, or directly to other users on the mesh.
    • View and search the list of other radios that your radio is picking up.

    Things currently NOT supported:

    • Configuring the radio. Please use the Android/iOS app or Meshtastic web client to set up the radio.
    • Showing positions of radios on the map (next major feature to be implemented).

No, no change. I'll open an issue; that'll be more efficient. I've started the French translation on Weblate.

    Hello,
If the title question draws a 'Yes' from you, please help me with a little detail. I wonder if these would be quite readily done, or require some amount of, let's say... tinkering.
    Either way, I'd be interested.

    Background:

I installed UT on a Pixel 3a xl (bonito) by running UBPorts Installer in Linux on an old Macbook Air. What I want is UT on a tablet. I've tried and failed to install on my excellent old Nexus 7 (2013) flo tablet.

I can buy a Lenovo TB-X306F on Android 11 quite reasonably. This would hopefully become my UT tablet, and if it could replace the Macbook Air for some Linux purposes, such as my question suggests, so much the better, as the Air freezes occasionally - not good if it ever interrupted a flashing session.

The Pixel is running /e/os now, but I'm fairly sure I can put UT on it, to maybe perform the Lenovo's UT install. Pixels are so flexible.

I also have Termux and a Debian Linux via VNCViewer on a Samsung tablet, but it seems like a whole lot of tinkering to get beyond very simple adb & fastboot.

    Any comments will be welcomed!
    Thanks,
    KJU

it will have to basically be a hack UT's confined nature does not allow block usb writes ...yet ...im hoping to change that with "workspace" ....i actually have a iso writer app ready to go already built ....just does not work because UT confinement

@gpatel-fr i'd say its more general experience coding/compiling, i will say the real barrier right now is enough ram to compile and have a few browser tabs open.
