@fireful0 I wouldn't count on wireless display that much. First of all, compatibility on UT is very limited. It's only known to work on Microsoft Wireless Display Adapter and I don't even know if it works on OnePlus One. Also, even if it works, wireless display has significant input lag that it's only really usable with media consumption. Even on Android, I never had a good experience with it.

    Hi,

I'm reacting to the "firewall" thing.
I'm not sure you really understand what a firewall does?!

A firewall acts on the data traffic incoming or outgoing to simplify its job is to prevent incoming unsolicited traffic.
It won't protect you when accessing your banking account.

When browsing, the user is willingly connecting to a server, in doing so rendering a firewall useless if the server is compromised.
Of course a firewall can block known malicious addresses or allow only known IPs but it is restrictive and not that effective.

To go back to the main topic here : Ubuntu Touch
The hotspot is a bit tricky to activate but it works for most of the devices.

Regarding the move to 20.04, the technical limitations are unknown at the moment so the foundation (or anyone) is not able to give a statement on whether a device CAN or CANNOT be ported to 20.04.
The foundation already gave a list of devices on which they are working. This list will most probably see a port to 20.04.
For other devices it will depend on the porter or if someone step in to do the job ; the core team will be able to help but they cannot port each of the tens of devices supported right now.

I hope this clarifies some things.

@dalharmony Please make sure you get a device that WayDroid works on. Not sure everyone does yet but that info should be in the WayDroid section of Support https://forums.ubports.com/category/102/waydroid

    @kugiigi
I have from 10 to 12 tabs permanently opened on morph at every launch.

@kugiigi said in How would you gauge the amount of support that is likely to be available for a particular device?:

Or maybe memory management is just better in the old Canonical devices.

    Maybe πŸ€”

@domubpkm that's not how development works usually, the tasks will be moved around when the features are ready and tested. Some are not ready and tested yet it seems. But it's basically "when it's done".

To wrap up this topic I went for a Tutanota free account for use on my Nexus 5. It was easy to set up and available within two minutes of creation. If it proves successful I am happy to pay the ludicrously cheap 12 Euros per annum.

Incidentally I used the application from the Open Store by Jose M Reyes.

To some extent it depends on the actual goal. Is this intended as a test harness for an app in a controlled environment? Or as a means of automation on a desktop?

Faking udev ought to work across different compositors. The virtual keyboard extensions might work for some compositors but different compositors support different protocol extensions. (E.g. Mir supports virtual_keyboard_unstable_v1 but not org_kde_kwin_fake_input.)

If this is just for an application test harness, then it should be possible to test against a specific, even a bespoke, compositor.

This could be complicated for most people I know as they have employers, and work (especially paid) outside that raises contract concerns.

Maybe ask on the wayland-devel mailing list?

@domubpkm said in Openstore : donations:

    The number of donations received
The total amount received (optional but would be informative).

The problem is that OpenStore isn't a donations platform itself, and many of us might also list donation links in other places, or also contribute to other things where we receive donations. So it's not easy to classify all the donations.
