@darshpreets said in Running a Home Server on Ubuntu Touch – Feasibility & Experiences?: Hi all, Has anyone here successfully run a home server directly on Ubuntu Touch? I’m curious about: What kind of services you’ve managed to run (e.g., web server, file server, SSH, media streaming) How stable the system is for 24/7 operation Any limitations due to the read-only root filesystem or confinement Recommended tools or packages to make it work I’m considering using an older device as a lightweight home server and would love to hear real-world experiences or tips before I experiment. Thanks! It’s possible but with some caveats. SSH and small web servers work fine, but heavier services aren’t ideal since the system isn’t really designed for 24/7 loads. The read-only root means you’ll rely on Libertine or container setups to install extra packages. For long-term stability you’d be better off using a lightweight Linux distro on the same hardware if that’s an option.

@FixOne Hi. I tried your script but had to add avahi user to the android_net group. The avahi service failed because it didn't have permissions to open a socket. Didn't you have to do the same? After doing that kdeconnect it's working, but the notifications only show as a pop-up. Is it the same for you? Is it possible to show notifications in the drop-down list? Thanks a lot for your work.

@wally For now I haven't seen any crash yet with the app configured as such. But I do see freezes/crashes in Morph browser while using Google maps, therefore I guess the crash/freeze might be more related to Google Maps intents, than the GPS.

@_moh_eb_ said in Stuck in downloading the last file: In my attempt to install ubuntu touch on my RN8P in the download section, after downloading all the files, it downloads the last file until the middle and then stays in the downloading mode, but the download does not reach the end, I tried several times, even with another computer, but the problem still remains, what Do you suggest a solution? @MrT10001 said in Stuck in downloading the last file: @_moh_eb_ How long do you leave it for as it may take some time? @Rondarius said in Stuck in downloading the last file: @_moh_eb_ Have you tried to use usb2 ports and cable on pc? Usb3 is known to cause problems during installation. if you don't have access to usb2 ports on pc, you could use a usb2 hub instead. Use a USB2 cable & port (USB3 often flops on the last file) Try running the installer as root / sud Disconnect & reconnect device mid-install Switch networks or use VPN from the appstore (sometimes servers block final chunk)

@gpatel-fr Can confirm Fairphone 5 VOLTE works as expected on 24.04. Battery life has been great, SMS works, MMS (I have not tested with the final release of 24.04 only a RC) worked but only with WiFi off AS OF 9/16/25. Otherwise I think its fairly solid device and works well with UT.

Hi, just want to let you know, that I managed to make the newer Cinny version to work with our old morph Webengine. This took downgrading of matrix-dsk and some patching. The RC for Cinny UT based on Cinny 4.10.0 can be downloaded here https://github.com/Danfro/cinny-ut/releases. I made releases for focal (.1RC) and for noble (.nRC). Here it seems to work fine, please let me know if you hit any new issues. I know, we still have plenty of old issues.

I casually watched a part of that Q&A session! This thread was mentioned and it will be looked into: https://www.youtube.com/live/XorXLuKl2KE?feature=shared&t=1202 I have a question regarding Liberapay. I'm donating to ubports-foundation: https://liberapay.com/ubports-foundation/ But there also is UBports, which is a team ubports-foundation is a part of: https://liberapay.com/UBports/ What's the difference between them? Perhaps UBports was created first and, when the foundation was established some years later, a new account was created? Should we donate to ubports-foundation? The PayPal, Liberapay and Patreon images on the donate page do nothing when clicked: https://ubports.com/donate

Welcome! If you're interested in using Ubuntu Touch, I'd say the best bet is to read around the forums a bunch to see if Ubuntu Touch will fit your needs, and if so which device from the Devices list will suit your needs and try to find one that's available and affordable where you are.

@Winnie625 said in ubports and wereables question (smart watches): Has anyone here tested a Suunto device on Ubuntu? Would be cool to know how well it syncs. We can safely assume it won't sync at all since there is no matching companion app for Ubuntu Touch.

@wally The lack of MMS was a big sticking point for me, good to know it might just take some messing around to get it working. Hopefully the new APN settings will resolve my sms/mms issues. @arubislander Good to know! Once I get the SMS/MMS issues ironed out I will do some playing around and see what I can come up with. If I could somehow get bitwarden and firefox I would be set. The default browser is pretty rough with the scaling bug on the FP5.

@padraic I don't think Snapzor even works on Noble. For me it doesn't open. But yeah, you don't need it anymore to enable snaps on 24.04. However, it may serve as a GUI for installing snaps or as a snap store if ever the dev decides to still make it work on Noble. I've already tried snaps on my FP4 and Pro1-X. Sadly, it's still not a reliable option for apps. Most GUI programs doesn't work well or even open. Big improvement on this will come with an updated Mir and Wayland support Hopefully that will come soon
