@ancientsounds said in Do you think you know Ubuntu Touch ?: @libremax With more and more people getting unhappy with Google and Apple, there must be a great opportunity for some manufacurer and retailer to offer for sale a great off-the-shelf UT phone now? For the moment we can already congratulate ourselves for the consistency of Volla, which has been producing and marketing UT-embedded devices for 6 years and promoting them on its website, the new partnership with Brax tech, whose launch of the Brax3 was a success, and the forthcoming availability of UT on this device.

@fake-alex So what's the plan... are you offering to send these devices to people who want to try to make a port for them? Developers need to have the device in hands.

@O.o. said in Installing Ubuntu Touch from a non-Android OS (specifically Sailfish): Mainly I can't live without Signal Have you seen that Signal-Desktop port is on the way? As of today, it still has some limitations, but it will definitely move progressively towards being a fully functional client in the coming months. https://open-store.io/app/signalut.pparent Notifications, Audio messages, and Upload/Download of pictures, will most probably make their way at some point, some of them in a not so distant future.

@MrT10001 Me and another person here on the forum tried upgrading Sony Xperia X from focal to noble, but failed. It is stuck on the bootlogo and one of the devs or porters wrote that they are still investigating in it. So the Sony Xperia X is on the list of non upgrded devices.

I struggled with this on UT. Eventually I installed dufs webdav server and I've been using that with morph. I can download files from the PC easily and I can push files to the PC easily as well using a web browser. I can even stream videos from the PC this way! @theprivacydad You're right. But also, the name is confusing. Some may think "daily channel" is for "daily device"...

@grenudi Well, some quick items about this: Lomiri (aka Unity8) has 15 years of development (>) Unity is developed by a professional and capable team of designer and UX experts. I don't know why random people get the idea that the desktop is designed to be «just different from X». Lomiri has its own language and design. Object of which are simple, intuitive and beatifull. Ubuntu Touch is not Android. Ubuntu users are used to Unity patterns. So, have them in Ubuntu Touch makes sense to us. (offtopic) Andoird UI is a mess, but the more time passes, the more it adopts Unity design language.

@bamboy360 thanks for the feedback. 1- This is how Unity works. There is a difference from the Launcher that from the App drawer. 2- It has been some discussion on how to simplify all the indicators... 3- Inverted portrait should work as default but some porters blocked that feature.

@grenudi Because Ubuntu Touch is Lomiri. Without Lomiri, Ubuntu Touch loses its identity and loses its purpose. When the community/foundation picked up the project, it picked up the whole Ubuntu Touch project and continued its goal. In an ideal world, we all want the same things but in reality we want different things and that's the reason we have so many DEs and distros. One of the main goal of Ubuntu Touch and Lomiri is convergence. I know other distros also kind of touches that concept too but it's pretty obvious that UT's direction is very much different. Most of us UT users obviously like Lomiri and that's why we continue to support it and contribute to it.

@grenudi We've been more than tolerant when you came in swearing and calling us names... when you don't even use Ubuntu Touch anymore. Please don't push your luck. If you go on like this, you will wear out your welcome fast. Please consider this an official warning.

That is not a supported device, as far as I know. This means that there is no version of Ubuntu Touch for it. What exactly were you planning to install?

@pparent said in Taking the plunge: It's aslo the banks that edit passports? I'm not sure. I live here but this is not my country. Banks handle secure identification for just about anybody else here though - government website, justice, healthcare, DMV, post office, insurance companies, utilities...everything. It never fails to blow my mind that the locals are okay with private financial institutions basically spying on your every important moves online - the ones where you have to use your real identity: if you have business with anything or anyone in an official capacity, they know whom you deal with and when. But at least one of my colleagues got a painful reminder: he tried to get a loan to buy a new house and his application was declined for no reason that seemed to make sense, since he never missed a payment or got so much as a parking ticket. After some digging around with a friend who worked at the bank, it turned out the bank figured he had a drinking problem based on appointments he made online with his identity at the local equivalent of the AA and classified him as a potentially delinquent wino. And another thing that blows my mind is: it doesn't seem to bother any of the local politicians that the entire life of the country - since most everything is done online here - is entirely dependent on two foreign mobile OS vendors operating in a fascist country, with a history of abusive monopolistic practices and privacy invasion. Because I guarantee you, if the local banks know what you're doing here, Google and Apple do too. If this was my country, I'd be distressed that those two companies are the virtual gatekeepers of the entire communication infrastructure of the country. It's totally nuts if you think about it.

@kristatos There are understandably some errors at the beginning of 24.04-1.0. When is the next release supposed to come out? That would be 24.04-1.1? Greetings Charly
