@byron-hawkins said in Generate device tree (dts) from a Windows install: the device has an ordinary BIOS that I can configure (F2 on splash). Then try booting Ubuntu or Kubuntu for the right ARM platform from a USB Stick and see if that works ?! If it does and you like it : Install to local disk!

@moem said in How to install Linux on an old tablet?: Secondly, that tablet has 1 GB of RAM. That makes it a poor candidate for porting it to UT. If that is the case then I totally agree with @Moem and would also advise you to forget the tablet unless you feel like learning some new development related skills by porting Ubuntu touch to it!

@guywitholdphone I have moved the post as there is no port for this device https://forums.ubports.com/topic/206/will-you-port-to-device-x Each device needs a port of it's own which is not easy basic info here https://forums.ubports.com/topic/2068/halium-first-steps If you do give it a go there is plenty of help available but you need to check your device is suitable. Thanks.

@moncon - No worries! Thank you so much for the detailed and encouraging response. I just ordered a CC for Christmas and will surely install Debian and UT now with your recommendation. By the way, I was running UBports UT on my Pixel 3a XL and digging it until the cell network modem died (FYI: The modem hardware had issues before UBports UT install). Anyway, hope my CC wasn't manufactured and assembled on a Friday Thanks again. Cheers!

@cupkake Aurora never really worked in Anbox (don't know technically why). Somehow it was better with Yalpstore, but almost no app could be installed. You would rather install WayDroid instead of Anbox. Although it's still in development, it seems to run much better (Only Halium 9 and up devices) More information: www.waydro.id

@applee hi, If you say that you see no threat from using an alternative store. I say that I see no benefit from using an alternative store. These are, according to me, both not good arguments, but reflect the "mainstream" discussion we have recently in all media. My motto is: Where Opensource is on it, there should also be Opensource in it. Or: Ubuntu Touch I love it.

@anonymoustly There's project sandcastle who's working on getting android on iphone and postmarketos can boot on iphone 7/7+ thx to it ( see https://wiki.postmarketos.org/wiki/Apple_iPhone_7/7%2B_(apple-iphone7) ). Afaict nothing but the display really works yet, though. I guess if this ever properly works, it'll be a tad bit easier to port UT to, but someone will still have to do it ofc.

@saveurlinux - GPS fix definitely seems slower with my OnePlus 6t than with my Volla, but I am still able to use it for turn-by-turn navigation (via uNav or PureMaps). If I was in Europe I think I would prefer the Volla, but given that when I was travelling here in the USA there were areas where I could not get LTE mobile data with it, having another device where I can reliably get both calls and LTE from a single carrier became the priority. Best regards, Steve Berson

If you want to try and port it yourself then please check this documentation: https://forums.ubports.com/topic/2068/halium-first-steps Also here is for why I moved your post: https://forums.ubports.com/topic/206/will-you-port-to-device-x BR

@bolly said in Vote for UBports until 19th of October 2021!: @mark-muth said in Vote for UBports until 19th of October 2021!: @alter Results are out. UBports on second place and will receive some 1410,57 EUR, yeah! No, we came third, the first is the 15,000 euros. Congratulations to the winners! For the 30th anniversary of the Linux kernel, B1 Systems donates 30,000 euros. One half will go to social projects, the other - as a thank you to the tireless work of the open source community - to open source projects. In the first round, suggestions could be submitted; from 5 to 19 October, the voting ran to decide to whom the money should be distributed. The sum of 15,000 euros for open source projects will be divided according to the proportion of votes received. Only projects or associations for which the payout exceeds 100 euros will be considered. Translated from https://linux30.b1-systems.de
