    • RE: Few thoughts regarding coming back after several years

@ktatar156 You are not comparing like with like. When Canonical were running the development they had full time paid engineers working on it. It was good, but there were lots of things that did not work right.... or at all.

Since then the development has been handed over to (mostly) umpaid engineers working in their spare time. UBPorts have managed to fund raise to get some paid developers in to work on the harder stuff. They managed to move the OS from 15.04 to 16.04 which was a massive achievement. Every OTA delivered performance improvements and the odd fix here and there. I still have an old Aquaris E5 running the last version released by Canonical. It sort of still works but it is so slow and a lot of things just stopped working over time as software moved on. UBPorts managed to fix most of these issues.

They are currently working on 20.04 and the initial results sound very encouraging. Hang around for a bit and enjoy the ride!

Just tried the demo from the OpenStote.

Looks good, works well. Bonus points for giving us a working tester to try it on, nice work.🙂

@applee There is also the saying 'never assume anything, because it makes an ass of u and me.'🤓

But seriously you are right to say we learn from our mistakes. I like this notion, it means that I am very clever 😂😛😂

    • RE: Is this new feature intentional?

@domubpkm I have started another thread about not being able to upload photos.

I'll leave this thread going to see if anyone can confirm/deny that this feature is intentional and what it was meant to do.

Thanks for you help. I'm just glad I was trying the right things and they just wouldn't work for me!

    • RE: Two dev and rc channels on my device

@becherekmg Just a guess, but would that be (reading top down) dev, rc, stable (all 16.04), then dev, rc (both 20.04). There isn't a stable 20.04 .....yet.

    • RE: Is sound working?

@sturai Tweezers. It might be best to power the phone down before attempting to remove the remains of the jack as you may inadvertantly short out the audio output 🤓

    • RE: PIN Code needed after a few hours

@eheintzmann You can check to see if your phone has rebooted by opening the terminal and entering

      uptime

Followed by return. This should tell you how long your system has been up (since the last reboot). I'm sure this info used to be available from the GUI but I can't find it.

      EDIT:

Install Ubuntu Info from the Openstore. Open it up and click on 'System', the uptime is displayed on about the 9th line.

    • RE: How to reset Ubuntu Touch without password

@elcaset Yes, use the installer but make sure you tick the option to wipe data to remove all your friends stuff. As was mentioned above you don't need to reload the stock android for your device if it already has UT on it.

Sometimes things go a bit.'off' with UT and you may notice some 'strange behaviour'. Quite often a reinstall without the wipe option cures the problem.... and maintains your precious data.

Welcome to the wonderful world of UT. Enjoy☺

    • RE: Missed OTA-7 upgrade

@bbiw If in doubt use the Installer to load the current 20.04, but make sure you don't tick the option to wipe user data. In fact as was mentioned above you are always advised to back up your data before any major changes to your system.

@MrT10001 Back when I was doing a proper job I think I used to use Insert Special Symbol..... or.something like it under MS Word.
Just checked on LibreOffice and it is Insert -> Special Character then select the required character.

@MrT10001 I think he means the UT English keyboard. Not sure about where to find it on a desktop/laptop keyboard.
On the UT keyboard select numbers then long press the 0 key.
