The issue was me not having a screen lock passcode defined. Not sure if this is the best way to approach this, a settings page for editing user information (including name and root password) would be useful, that one could then opt out for the screenlock.

@R66F root, you'd probably need to use a custom waydroid gsi with SU binaries. from there just install one of the many root modules/frameworks that let you spoof app id's

@thepossessor With PMOS on sdcard and Manjaro on the emmc I tried many times to follow the pine64 hints to flash ANX but got no out put or responses to indicate anything was happening (turns out that's normal) so also followed the prompt to dmesg. And redirect to a file 'cos too difficult/laborious to look at on device. It wasn't working in that set up, so followed another guy's post to use mobian/phosh on on sdcard. No terminal output, but after a while dmesg output showed no errors or comments in the process right up to 'power down' or something. So it looked complete. I don't understand the tech stuff here but my main motivation in this is thinking that it will make usb connection possible to file manager on pc. Anyhow , after that I re-plugged the phone whilst still in mobian and and got connected to pc. Next: Flashed UT to emmc to see if if it would work there also, but no. Flashed mobian to emmc. usb connection to ubuntu on pc straightforward and easy. Just right for me! I'm not sure it was the ANX flashing that did it...but it's the first time after lots of mucking about that I can just connect to pc with usb and copy files , so ...

At this point, the real concern is not Tor but having a simple internet connection on the UT volla, this lack of internet is my case, even in OTA-14, others only on dev and rc channels. Already getting the basics right, i.e. normalizing cellular data problems. The positive point is that I flashed (without solving my problem) several times the volla with the last installer and it works great!

@paulmbcufc Hi Paul, No need to open another thread, the first one is still active. I understand your frustration, but you need a little patience we are mostly a community of volunteers and we do this on our own time. It's holiday season and people might be busy. Give it more time, I'm sure someone will be able to help. You can also check out telegrams channels to see if someone with this device is able to help you out. I'll lock this thread. Please continue on the original one: https://forums.ubports.com/topic/5319/ubuntu-touch-sony-f8131 Happy holidays

@bmarkman I am no expert by any means here; I have had an Ubuntu Nexus 4 for three weeks. But have you tried to just hold the buttons to see if something else happens? I know I did it a few times, but I forgot if I held the buttons till I saw the robot again. Basically I just did this a couple of times following the steps until I saw big orange circles on my phone flashing like a strobe light (I didn't know that meant the OS was installing). EDIT #2: Also I'm pretty sure at least once I ignored the installer's instructions and just hit continue. The installer is actually more efficient than they give credit for, but it's not as easy as installing Ubuntu or Zorin to a laptop. It's kind of like 2008-level desktop install, you have to "beat it up" a bit. Just be persistent, because once you get the orange flashing circles it's just waiting for it to show up. But it took me like 5 tries (I actually installed it twice because I didn't know what the circles were. I almost did it three times but while I started to research the circles I saw the Ubuntu Touch loading screen). Good luck! Have confidence with it. It really works well on this phone!

@cliffcoggin I actually have 2 because the first one is really cheap and I thought it was defective so I refunded without returning. Then I bought a not so expensive from Xiaomi. Both works but I still need to bend this plastic cover a bit more

@flohack Yes I have noticed that messages only will appear when I wake the phone. I mean the power usage isn't horrible, the phone will last about 20 hours without use... not bad considering it's simply a backup non Google/Apple phone. Great port though

@farmer Hi, I'm very pleased you were able to fix your issue. Can you use the "Topic Tools" (icon with a little gear) and first ask a question and then mark it as sovled. I might help someone find this issue.
