@htc_tattoo I´d like to add that it might not only be the fear of the unknown or the disability to new ideas (even though it may be true for a vast number of cases). I assume rather more than less would switch soon once they are presented a running system that fits their needs. But that “label” is likely to be seen differently by different people. And sure on top of that you get the habitat issues and what people are used to, I agree, that´s tough educational work.... My case does sure not reflect the majority but I think that quite some of those GUI dependent UT-aspirants out there are just hoping to have their core functionalities implemented in UT soon. Maybe we´re just a bit hesitant with the system as it is because not everybody is keen on learning how to script and dive into linux (Division of work has some good reasons :-)) But that does not denounce the "nerd" - instead the "UT-nerd" should take pride in the fact that he or she is working us all out of that dependency of the kraken. And that is a very important thing to do. Hats off to everybody who contributes to Ubuntu Touch!

@halucigenia Please see this comment as posted in the thread suggested by @Ingo. It resolves the situation well for now. [Forwarded from Florian Leeber] I am fully against any cooperation with Huawei sorry to say. As I said yesterday in the supergroup: No we wont ask for this. Huawei is in a very political discussion and the foundation needs to stay neutral. We will not endorse, recommend any or cooperate with companies that are under the impression of political influence. That topic is now locked and I am going to do the same here for the same reasons I said there. I think that really puts an end to this thread so am going to lock it. There is always Off Topic if needed. Thank you for your understanding.

@baruchiro Either tap on the word reply (in blue type) replies to the Peron who made that particular post. Or use the big blue left pointing arrow for a general post in a thread.

I regularly send out to a Blue tooth receiver hooked up to external DAC / amp / speakers - it works with no problems with my OnePlus One. Bluetooth transmission tends to degrade the audio a little bit though - but being able to send to better speakers makes a dramatic improvement over phone speakers. Best regards, Steve Berson

@dln949 As far as I know, Anbox for the time being only gets network connectivity interaction with the Linux system, no notifications, GPS, audio, or any other interaction with the phone components. Native applications do get notifications, and webapps should get them if they get notifications in the desktop, but for that you should use UT Tweak Tool to get the webapp to run in the background and you should not close it. In any case I don't think one can rely on those notifications from webapps, if they work at all.

@dln949 you can pretty safely assume that UT apps don't spy on you while they are not focused/actively in use by you as long as they are confined, as they get suspended (given you haven't deactivated it for the app) as soon as you have another app in the foreground or you turn off the screen. When it comes to unconfined apps: they all have to be opensource (their source code has to be publicly available) and have been reviewed if they are in openstore, so everyone can check what the app does in the background (if at all). The apps could still spy on you while in foreground/in use (if they announced to use camera/mic). But also most most of the (native) apps in the openstore are opensource anyway. So you can never be 100% sure, but its very very unlikely.

@ricardo65 Just to clarify. You have Ubuntu 18.04 on your pc/laptop and want to try the edge channel on your device? You need to use ADB. Open a terminal on the pc/laptop type adb devices - the daemon should start and your device be listed adb shell - That will get you into your device Then rerun the sudo system etc again and that's it. Please be aware that edge is not anywhere near day to day use and can break at anytime. Try at your own risk

I use KDE Neon which is based on Ubuntu 18.04. I use this computer to install UT. For this I downloaded the image of the UBPorts Installer Application at https://github.com/ubports/ubports-installer/releases/download/0.1.21-beta/ubports-installer-0.1.21-beta-x86_64.AppImage. This guy is an AppImage that allows you to run an application on any Linux distribution, regardless of its version or type of software packaging. It contains all the libraries needed to run UBports-installer, the UBports application for installing Ubuntu Touch.

@dln949 said in OnePlus One porting question: In the manual instructions for porting to this phone, at one point it asks, Is the phone currently running Android or Ubuntu? The phone I have is running neither - It is running CyanogenMod 13.1.2. Will that cause a problem to port Ubuntu Touch to it? Will the stated instructions remain the same as for Android? I installed two times Ubuntu Touch on OPO's with CyanogenMod running before. So the answer should be yes. [edit] @trainailleur was faster than me

I use a Nexus 5 on ubports as my "daily driver", but it has a broken case, no gps, screen marks and other oddities.New old stock N5 s are still available in the UK, on ebay for <£100 so I have bought a spare. Clearly Fairphone is available but Pinephone looks good to me. If Pinephone were to be as successful as the Raspberry Pi then this community would be transformed in size.

Thanks to everyone who responded. I'm definitely going to give it a shot. If nothing else, it keeps another device out of the landfill or someone's drawer.

@dshimer I agree, I was off ubports for a bit because my wife's phone died and she needed (Android, sigh) a replacement quickly, thus a Nexus 5 was used up. But I presently laid hands on another, and here I am back with a daily driver again! This one was, hmmm, like $60, with everything including battery in good condition.

@trainailleur the issue is not a technical one but a legal one (FCC regulations).
