The existing port for Moto G 2014 is not halium based. It is ported like all the other working devices. The port is from early 2018.

@advocatux said in Who thought of the name 'Yumi' as the UT robot mascot?: @Opolork Joe & Wayne dubbed our mascot in one of their UTAs. Yumi stands for "you and me", and it keeps the same spirit than the word "ubuntu" (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ubuntu_philosophy) Gotcha. Thanks, advocatux.

What do you mean by "desktop" here exactly? If you mean the black bar of stacked icons on the left, that is the launcher. You can pin apps to the launcher by long pressing on them while they are running, and un-pin similarly. Running apps always appear there, and you can tap on the icons to switch. The app spread is what you get with the long swipe from the right, showing the live previews of apps. This is basically the same as when you press Alt+Tab on a PC to switch between apps/windows. Scopes are special and no you can't close the dash application, however in a future update the scopes will be going away completely. The replacement for the apps scope (where you currently launch applications), is the app drawer, which will be opened with long swipe from left, or by tapping the big logo button on the launcher.

It does seem to me though that there is a steady stream of people asking for help with porting devices... Perhaps that seems like a negative thing - UT is a struggle to get working for some - but on the other hand it shows that a significant number of people are interested enough to give it a go.

@jujubala1997 said in Help the community: Where do I start? What are barriers that impede UT from spreading? What should I learn in software to help the community? Depends your area of interest and confort : community, system, porting, coding, Art etc... and you don't even need to be good or educated in that field, like me just learning by tweaking. Python wise they are several possibilities : full applications : https://github.com/ernesst/ActivityTracker Wrapper : https://framagit.org/ernesst/MLS-for-Utouch / https://framagit.org/ernesst/gps-utouch-tracker Python get integrated into QML via : https://github.com/thp/pyotherside A very nice python lib would be great to integrate into Utouch : https://github.com/owncloud/pyocclient for Nextcloud/Owncloud. Welcome in the community.

Morph-browser has everything to become an excellent browser. There has already been a lot of very good work done on it by Chris Clime alias Balcy. I recognize this even if many bugs are still very disturbing for me (and others i suppose) for a daily use. I don't think it's worth going elsewhere, but rather to focus on it so that it matures as quickly as possible. Developers who are available and have the skills should rather help Chris because morph is (surely) a big piece for a person almost alone in this task. Congratulations to him.

All, in order to help, I've create a wrapper in python which scan wifi and gps position. It's not the most userfriendly, but quite simple to use and can run in background too if the terminal is set for it. Please test and let me know. https://framagit.org/ernesst/MLS-for-Utouch/tree/master Note : Upload to MLS is done automatically when the app is closed by a Ctrl+C and phone connected to internet. No parallel use with Unav or Activity Tracker test has been properly done yet Only tested with Nexus 5, if fail with other device, please create a bug. If anybody know how to list cells tower around the device, please let me know. So far all the ofono script doesn't allow that Further implementation : If this script is able to run in background without disturbing user apps, would be interesting to add a on/off button in the GPS menu.

@advocatux said in Any checksums available for the UBports AppImage installer file?: @Opolork yes, it's stable... enough Anyway, we could say that all UT software is 'beta' and that wouldn't be too far from the truth, but it runs pretty fine in most cases. Ok, thank you, @advocatux.

Hello What interests me are the ideas, it is always enriching, that they come from all the people in this forum regardless of their degree of competence (you, you have a lot of experience) and involvement. You bring interesting ideas and solutions that always lead to reflection. I have some computer knowledge but a very limited ubuntu background (but I like the Ubuntu Touch approach), however I read you with pleasure and interest. It would be a shame to deprive the forum of your contribution. Sincerely.

@htc_tattoo I´d like to add that it might not only be the fear of the unknown or the disability to new ideas (even though it may be true for a vast number of cases). I assume rather more than less would switch soon once they are presented a running system that fits their needs. But that “label” is likely to be seen differently by different people. And sure on top of that you get the habitat issues and what people are used to, I agree, that´s tough educational work.... My case does sure not reflect the majority but I think that quite some of those GUI dependent UT-aspirants out there are just hoping to have their core functionalities implemented in UT soon. Maybe we´re just a bit hesitant with the system as it is because not everybody is keen on learning how to script and dive into linux (Division of work has some good reasons :-)) But that does not denounce the "nerd" - instead the "UT-nerd" should take pride in the fact that he or she is working us all out of that dependency of the kraken. And that is a very important thing to do. Hats off to everybody who contributes to Ubuntu Touch!

@halucigenia Please see this comment as posted in the thread suggested by @Ingo. It resolves the situation well for now. [Forwarded from Florian Leeber] I am fully against any cooperation with Huawei sorry to say. As I said yesterday in the supergroup: No we wont ask for this. Huawei is in a very political discussion and the foundation needs to stay neutral. We will not endorse, recommend any or cooperate with companies that are under the impression of political influence. That topic is now locked and I am going to do the same here for the same reasons I said there. I think that really puts an end to this thread so am going to lock it. There is always Off Topic if needed. Thank you for your understanding.
