@mamaji77111 Yes, true. I had to address all those issues to get the VPN install script to work again.

@kugiigi That is nice to hear! It's a success story then! 🙂
Yeah, I think if there is willingness to pay for new features and accelerated development, and I do think there is willingness here, then financial incentives can motivate all parties to more engagement. Users don't feel that lost and powerless regarding the evolution of their favorite mobile OS, and freelance developers can pick and choose from interesting and paid jobs. It seems to me a win-win!

@wizardi3 The function is not global? I don't think that is claimed, nor do I know what that would even mean.

UBports is the name of the foundation and, by extension, the community. The OS is called Ubuntu Touch. Maybe that clears up some of the confusion?

@RayCulp Firstly thanks for offering to help. All help and contributions greatly received. Secondly though 16.04 will be around for a few more months I can only second what @doniks has said and put the work into 20.04 docs and information, that is the future now. Though if something affects both 16.04 and 20.04 docs and you want to update both you are free to but really there is little point as development on 16.04 has ended.

    Time to donate.

If you haven't already done so, please consider a donation to the porter of the Pixel 3a directly as well. His efforts are purely on a voluntary basis. Maybe split the amount you were planning on donating between the foundation and the porter?

If it seems like I'm a little unsure of myself, that's because I am. Up till now I've only ever used Github to host my own private repos. I've never actually created a single pull request.

That is the beauty of PR's. You propose them, and a discussion develops around them. Suggestions for improvements can be implemented in your fork, and the PR will automatically be updated to reflect the changes.

I don't understand why people want to change from iOS/Android to UT but on the other hand still want to use all their services. In my opinion one effort of UT is, that you don't have to use accounts and services from these big companies and still have a functional and free phone in your hand.

I agree. Big Tech surveils you 24/7, exploits your most private data, and tries to control what information you have access to. I am so not down for that. If the only choice was Apple or Android, I would not have a smart phone.

@LemmyMemy Development on Anbox has ceased. Waydroid is the solution that is available for limited Android app compatibility.

@garymc I'm not pushing you away but if the terminal is the reason you use UT then you're using it for the wrong reason. You might be better off using other distros like Droidian or postmarketOS.

@ukphil hI uk Phil: I saw your comments about PIA VPN set up that uou posted 6 years ago.

I got my Aquaris M10 FHD updated to Ubuntu 16.04 this week and wondered if you have made progress in getting PIA installed on 16.04.

There is a good web page on how to install PIA for a Raspberry Pi: https://www.raspberrypi-spy.co.uk/2020/06/raspberry-pi-vpn-setup-guide/

It has worked well for my on my pi computers.... but I don't know if it will work for the Ubports Ubuntu Tablet.

It seems that it might work, if the operating system (16.04) is really Ubuntu linux.

Could you please comment so that I could think and learn more, please?

    Thanks,
    Daryl

@mariogrip said in Move from Github to Gitlab?:

    Hello everyone!

So, with the resent news about Microsoft buying Github https://www.theverge.com/2018/6/3/17422752/microsoft-github-acquisition-rumors the question have been raised to me if we should move to Gitlab. We will for sure talk about this in our Developer meeting today, so I decided to post this to see what the community things before making a decision. This has to be an Developer decision, but at the same time we do bug reporting on Github too so community input is extremely important. So please give your input on if we should move or not.

To move to Gitlab will have no major drawbacks, we will only gain extra functions like direct CI on Gitlab. Gitlab has all the existing functions we use on Github. Gitlab is even opensource which is a big plus! (github is not opensource) Importing will also be no extra job, Gitlab has already automated tools to import everything from Github (issues, pr, wiki, repos etc). And for infrastructure using Gitlab is no problem plugins etc for Gitlab already exists (https://jenkins.io/doc/pipeline/steps/gitlab-plugin/) So from my side there is no reason to not use Gitlab.

    vote here: http://www.strawpoll.me/15829621

I myself strongly dislike this, and do not trust Microsoft, so I have moved all my personal things to gitlab! Also the irony asking someone to create a bug report for our project on a Microsoft platform is weird.

What I still don't understand today is why they didn't make a real switch to open-sources. The fact that they changed to the e.v. club
