@flohack Atm it's quite busy because of the year-end with my kids (school, music performances, etc.), but between Christmas and new year I can remount the needed directories writeable and see if I can install and configure mmcli and geoclue to see if I can get those working on UT

@idonthatevests Would it be useful for hosting the images that the ubports mirrors pull, or is it sort of the same situation there?

@mirroronthewall Yes, this is surprisingly useful, as it means you don't always have to whip out a hardware keyboard, which defeats the point of the small form factor of a phone. Missing support for modifier keys is a big issue when using GUI apps in Libertine, as touch-to-mouse conversion often doesn't behave as it should and can get you 'stuck', so a fallback to keyboard shortcuts is just as necessary there as it may be useful in general: actually, your idea of creating macros for anything seems to solve many problems (including mine) at once, so congrats - now we just need to figure out how! The closest I've found is Ambot Installer: Hacks and Mods, although I need to set up a persistent amd64 QEMU instance on my arm64 laptop before I can allow myself to experiment with it freely (it's the only way I got the installer working). Other tools may be available but I have not been able to surface them yet, I will update this thread as I learn more about the issue and potential solutions. [UPDATE] Here is a list of interesting posts related to this problem, which may be a good starting point for building a bridge towards the solution: These are previous conversations on the repos which appear to have been abbandoned: https://github.com/ubports/keyboard-component/issues/96 gitlab.com/ubports/apps/terminal-app/-/issues/78 https://gitlab.com/ubports/development/core/lomiri-keyboard/-/issues/96 Instead, here are some useful links related to Malakiboard, which should be a good foundation to build macro functionality on: https://github.com/kugiigi/jerk-click https://github.com/kugiigi/jerk-installer https://github.com/kugiigi/jerk-packages

For the past few weeks, I have been working on a Meshtastic app for Ubuntu Touch. I've shared a few screenshots here and there in the UBPorts Matrix rooms. But now the app is finally ready enough to be made public for alpha testing. It is not ready for the OpenStore yet. The point of this pre-release is to find bugs in the currently implemented features, and (hopefully) figure out a way to deal with Bluetooth instability issues. The source code is here: https://git.agnos.is/projectmoon/indra The app is licensed under the AGPLv3 due to using portions of the Whisperfish codebase. Release (.click packages): https://git.agnos.is/projectmoon/indra/releases What is Meshtastic? Meshtastic is an off-grid communication solution that uses low powered radios (LoRa) to send messages over approved frequencies (868 MHz in Europe, ~915 MHz in North America). This can be used for text messaging, location tracking, telemetry reporting, and more. The app must be prevented from suspending using the UT Tweak Tool to work properly. Implemented Features Sending and receiving messages to channels. Sending and receiving messages directly to/from nodes. List of nodes with node information and hops away. Connect to nodes via Bluetooth. Connect to nodes via serial USB. Support multiple nodes. Push notifications for messages received in channels and direct messages. Notable Missing Features Node map Node information Channel information Setting up and configuring radios (use another device for this for now) Connecting to radios over WiFi Remote administration Favorite nodes Sorting node list Searching messages and nodes Proper list of previously connected nodes Device telemetry. The Alpha Testing Phase New releases will be uploaded when they are ready. There will be no database migration during the alpha testing phase, as the data model is not yet stable. So releases may require a complete wipe of the on-device database. After moving to beta/production releases, the database will be treated as something that should not be erased. The goal of this test is to make sure of the following: There are no strange problems with sending and receiving messages. Make sure that mulitple radios are properly supported: there should be no cross-over of messages and such. Try and stabilize the Bluetooth connection without power cycling the Bluetooth adapter. This might be device-specific. On the Volla Quintus, the BLE connection drops quite often, and it seems that it can only reconnect to the radio by powering the BT adapter and back on. This works, but it also disconnects other BT devices. Known Issues Aside from the giant list of missing features above, there are a handful of known problems: Messages not immediately marked as read if in the channel where message was received. Bluetooth connection instability (see above).

Hello, I am currently running Ubuntu Unity 24.04 with Unity 7.7 desktop. I was wondering if it is possible to install Lomiri alongside to play around with it and switch between Unity 7.7 and Lomiri from the LightDM. I tried running Lomiri on Debian 13 but it did not work with multi-monitor in my case and so I cannot change to Lomiri as a primary desktop until this is repaired (as I see from the website, this is "under construction", per se). I love Unity and love to see the future of how this desktop develops as Lomiri formerly Unity 8. Thank you!!

@uxes That is a great program, but I heard that ATL relies on GTK. Which is not integrated into UT. And besides, list of supported apps is limited compared to Waydroid.
