@UniSuperBox, thank you for the reply. Yes, I know about the GPG validation chain, and I'm confident about the communication phone-server and vice versa for the official issues, so to speak. I'm more interested in how to check integrity when downloading one of these images [0] directly, or in the security check of all those apps people are developing and uploading to the openstore, and things like that [1]. That's why I asked about the plan to keep UBports secure. [0] http://cdimage.ubports.com/devices/ [1] Some people already tried to sneak malicious apps into the "old" Ubuntu Store. https://insights.ubuntu.com/2015/10/15/update-on-ubuntu-phone-security-issue/

That is a great shame as if it will not work, it is one area where our good old phone os is behind what is out there currently. I personally feel that things like this should work.

I personally think that dual boot is good for a start but I do not think it is the long term answer. I loved dual boot on my laptop as it gave me a chance to play with Ubuntu with knowing I had the safety net of being able to go back to windows when I wanted. However, with phones it may not work as well as you generally want continual access to your app such a scat and email. The long term answer is to make something nice and new, something different and most of the time that means not android or apple. Also the as that people need and use need to be made available on touch.

@aaalternator If you would like to discuss the reasons for your ban, please e-mail me. I promise that I will share your with the rest of the team if it makes you feel better. dalton at ubports dot com. Otherwise, your ban is not up for discussion in the public forum. I'm locking this thread since it's gone so far off topic. Sorry to anyone who wanted to have useful discourse here.

I already said it in another thread, I don't want Android apps in UBports. For those who want a mixed Android experience there's LineageOS, and for those who want a full Android experience there's, well, Android. Please keep UBports as free as possible of Android and Google claws (yes I know about the mandatory layers that we can't avoid for now. Let's hope we'll be free from Google someday).

@alternator and the users decide if they dont like it, they can create there private websites on the net, or there join the telegram group. there are a lot of oportunities to join and with hard fair workload on it, you have your success. the forum is comunity-driven. thats means there are a little number of people work hard in private spare time, to run the forum on pcs. if there are a lot of ubport- users want new stuff on it, they come together and than....its a question of workload, who will support it, who will pay for the changes.. so if you wish changes, find people, make ideas, wrote them down, delight people about your idea, make them enthusiastic about your idea, go viral about your idea, have fate and trust in it...evolve/ develope your idea with the comunity......so become a true patrone

@Marathon2422 Oh yes I remember this and it happened more on my E5 than the tablet. I raised a bug report for this, but it was never addressed and later I realised why.

The week has passed, and we are going to the 2nd step - the design plan! The idea got little attention or eagerness to develop within ubports. But idea lives on. It received some good comments, and nobody said its bad. It gives me some confidence. I decided to work on to develop it. Everything will be done in the open. If you want to get in touch or follow the news, go to our new site http://collaborationplatform.eu

@ChloeWolfieGirl @mariogrip How does Ubuntu Touch render emoji? Does it use the CBDT/CBLC color font format (like NotoColorEmoji.ttf from Android) or SVG in Open Type font format (like the EmojiOne Color SVGinOT Font)? EDIT: it looks like it uses the CBDT/CBLC color font format like Android. This poses an aditional challenge, license wise when the world moves on to Unicode 10, since EmojiOne is no longer free. Hopefully by then there are libre alternatives (that aren't the horrible Android O emoji). I also hope to have the time to contribute to this, but CBDT/CBLC fonts are harder to compile than SVGinOT fonts, for what I've seen. The Noto Emoji project is Apache 2.0 for the color emoji. If Ubuntu Touch uses SVGinOT Fonts, it's perfectly possible to fork Noto Emoji and convert it to SVGinOT and still retain the license (the B&W emoji are rendered on the fly from the color ones while compiling the font file). If the Apache 2.0 license is suitable for you guys, I don't mind setting up a repo to provide the SVGinOT font with Google's blob emoji from Android 4.4 while being Unicode 9 compilant (for the most part, because country flags and the rainbow flag (at least) are currently missing from the Noto project: I hope google updates it in the short term though, hopefully before updating to the horrible Android O design). Another thing to take into account for Emojitwo is the transition to Unicode 10 and beyond. In the case of the Noto project, Google provides the updates under the Apache 2.0 License (which can be adapted afterwards), while in the case of Emojitwo those updates will have to be designed from the ground up, since they can't be forked from future updates of EmojiOne anymore).

To just add to Neos quote: Please understand that we were completely surprised by Canonical and that the StationDock is far less important now than to have a phone at all... I think if you already donated an amount and you really don´t want it to be used for the core OS development, the server infrastructure or the huge task of keeping the images fresh and correctly built, you could ask for reimbursement.
