Is there any plan from the UBPorts team to revive the Ubuntu TV project?

@erikcht I agree the offerings in this space are dire and it would be nice to see something competitive develop in the open source world. However, there is almost no overlap between Ubuntu TV and UBPorts. Some of the design ideas are the same, but the software stack is completely different from Ubuntu Touch and the codebase of Ubuntu TV is far too dated to use for rebooting the project. The only thing in the UBports portfolio that could be useful is Lomiri, but I suspect that would be overkill: Something simpler (like Ubuntu Frame) is probably enough. The real problem though is that there is too much "lock in" to proprietary solutions in this market. On the open source side, probably the best project to look at is Kodi.

I eventually figured out how to get the 'Sealed' app working, by changing the URL from bitwarden.com (the default) to https://vault.bitwarden.eu. bitwarden.eu does not work!

It does work better in 24.04-1.1 that it did in 24.04-1.0. I'm using google maps app from @chromiumos-guy If I open the app outdoor when I have access to my location it will usually work. BUT it will freeez/crash very easilly if I try to access the position when I don't have access to it (indoor) or that I click a second time on the position icon. Once it has crashed or freezed it will not work anymore until I reboot the phone.

Updated. Still no notifications on teleports and cinnyUt, but therefore the endless counter of dekko in the launcher is fixed. Have some issues with the switch between 5g and LTE, sometimes I have to go into flightmode to be on the internet again by mobile data. Today - so a few days after the update - uAdBlockNG stopped working, emptying cache and a reinstall didn't work. Before and after the update I sometimes do not hear it ringing on the other side. I have the impression that battery drain is less than before... Headphones via usb are working now!

@pparent I have installed VLC in Waydroid and it works great so a native app would be awesome.

@projectmoon Really easy, 10 minutes to understand what was expected of me, 1 minute to install and it works immediately. I saw some minor bugs, mostly display issues (especially on an external monitor). In any case, it works, it's fast, and ad-free! Two problems solved in one, thanks! (Nothing against Morph, but it still needs a little optimization.)

To enter Fastboot, one has to pus Volume UP and hold it, then power on the device while pressing volume up until the bootmenu appears. UBports is buggy at this step IMO, but once you enter fastboot manually the flashing begins. Only after the tablet is in fastboot does UBports tell you how to activate it. So for anyone reading this in the future, download UBports, enable Developer mode on the tablet (Ubuntu Touch doesn't have OEM locking), connect, then when the tablet shuts down, boot into fastboot and it should continue.

@Pingu said in Update to 24.0.1 and now won't boot.: @op6t_ut_user did you wait up to 20 minutes while rebooting? like it was told on blog post to 24.04 update? my op n10 5 g took about 7 minutes. Yes, I too have already made several attempts to install it, but unfortunately I've never been able to get it to work.

I've updated the "Mount_WaydroidHome.sh" script, so the WaydroidHome folder is writable from Ubuntu Touch (without using sudo): #!/bin/bash ## Set-up commands #mkdir ~/WaydroidHome #chmod 755 ~/WaydroidHome #sudo chmod 777 ~/.local/share/waydroid/data/media/0 ## Bind mount Waydroid's home folder if it's not already mounted, and then ensure it (and all sub-folders) stay read/write-able by the Ubuntu Touch user set -e /usr/bin/findmnt -rno SOURCE,TARGET /home/phablet/WaydroidHome >/dev/null || /usr/bin/mount --bind /home/phablet/.local/share/waydroid/data/media/0 /home/phablet/WaydroidHome while /usr/bin/true; do /usr/bin/sleep 5 if [[ ! "$(/usr/bin/stat -c "%a" /home/phablet/WaydroidHome)" == *7 ]]; then /usr/bin/find /home/phablet/WaydroidHome -type d ! -perm -o+rwx -print0 | /usr/bin/xargs -0 -I {} /usr/bin/chmod o+rwx '{}' fi done WARNING: The above scripts work for me, but I haven't tested it thoroughly, or even for that long, and it may contain security flaws. It is (as I said before) just a 'quick hack'. In the spirit of open source, I hope other people will provide improvements to it.

said in Enabling MAC randomization: I'll see how it works. 10 days later, I have not seen any problem running with Mac randomization, and I use Wifi every day. On the 'getting the list of stations' subject, I have noticed something new: when I go to Wifi settings and there is nothing displayed (except the access point the phone is connected to, that is), if in a (ssh) console I enter sudo iw dev wlan0 scan the phone screen displays magically the list that was scanned. I don't know what this could mean, maybe the list is cached somewhere and sometimes the cache is stale and not refreshed automatically or it's something else. The cache hypothesis is confirmed just now, I had left displayed a list of wifi stations, left the phone rest for some time, after unlocking it the list has disappeared. There is a wrinckle though: sometimes entering the refresh command, the reply of the command is 'scan aborted!'. This could also be what happens when it does not work. Unfortunately in both cases, the command is displayed in the system journal, but when something goes wrong nothing more is displayed. Sometimes the list vary from one execution to the next a few seconds later, but maybe it's because it's radio after all. Or there is a too short timeout. More investigation is needed (but I'm not giving up, this is only a follow-up). Last thing: the 'scan' command has a [randomise[=<addr>/<mask>] flag, so the randomization can be at 2 levels (scan and normal use) and can not to be done at the scan level, although I don't see why this could have 2 different results on 2 configuration that seem the same. I don't even know why there are 2 levels in the Mac randomization. The only thing I know for sure is that there are some wifi hardware/firmware/driver (?) that do not support Mac randomization (because I have read it in the configuration files for the FP5) so it could be remotely possible that some configuration don't support the randomization at the scan level while supporting it for normal use.

@enki Bug in the Bluetooth? That type of issue does happen intermittently. Try disabling bluetooth then rebooting, on reboot wait for the phone to settle for a few minute before enabling bluetooth and trying again. https://gitlab.com/ubports/porting/reference-device-ports/android11/fairphone-5/fairphone-fp5/-/issues/14
