@grenudi Well, some quick items about this: Lomiri (aka Unity8) has 15 years of development (>) Unity is developed by a professional and capable team of designer and UX experts. I don't know why random people get the idea that the desktop is designed to be «just different from X». Lomiri has its own language and design. Object of which are simple, intuitive and beatifull. Ubuntu Touch is not Android. Ubuntu users are used to Unity patterns. So, have them in Ubuntu Touch makes sense to us. (offtopic) Andoird UI is a mess, but the more time passes, the more it adopts Unity design language.

@bamboy360 thanks for the feedback. 1- This is how Unity works. There is a difference from the Launcher that from the App drawer. 2- It has been some discussion on how to simplify all the indicators... 3- Inverted portrait should work as default but some porters blocked that feature.

@Pierlink_Cloud This forum is for discussions and help on Ubuntu Touch proper, so your post is bordering on being off topic. I have moved it to the off-topic category for now. Let's see if anyone can help you transition from LXDE (or is it LXQt now) to Lomiri on what was originally a Lubuntu installation to your laptop. I will say though, that the recommended way of installing Lomiri on Ubuntu is to start out with Ubuntu Server 24.04 and install Lomiri from the PPA.

@0xinit69 As we use ofono (as other linux for mobile), perhaps could you search if another mobile linux user of another OS could give you the good parameters for your operator...

For future readers - they are not sorry. It's just yet another attempt at gaining sympathy after going a step too far (this time after they got timed out on Telegram). They argue in bad faith and seem to think they are always the smartest person in the room, forcing their genius ideas on everyone. And once that's rejected they go with some sob story about how they just wanted to help and are being treated unfairly. Let's not feed the troll.

On the Xiaomi 6, the ofono-binder-Plugin software package must be in a lower version (1.1.15). The latest version will cause the ofono process to crash。 The specific reason for the crash of the ofono process has not been found yet

@grenudi Because Ubuntu Touch is Lomiri. Without Lomiri, Ubuntu Touch loses its identity and loses its purpose. When the community/foundation picked up the project, it picked up the whole Ubuntu Touch project and continued its goal. In an ideal world, we all want the same things but in reality we want different things and that's the reason we have so many DEs and distros. One of the main goal of Ubuntu Touch and Lomiri is convergence. I know other distros also kind of touches that concept too but it's pretty obvious that UT's direction is very much different. Most of us UT users obviously like Lomiri and that's why we continue to support it and contribute to it.

@MrClayPole Oh DisplayLink? Yeah no, that definitely won't work in UT. That is a proprietary tech that needs a software or app or something. It's actually a nice tech because the device doesn't need to support display out but it needs the app on Android.

@grenudi We've been more than tolerant when you came in swearing and calling us names... when you don't even use Ubuntu Touch anymore. Please don't push your luck. If you go on like this, you will wear out your welcome fast. Please consider this an official warning.

@stanwood ...finally it was possible to get back openstore-app without re-installing via UT-installer... Looking into the log file of /opt/click.ubuntu.com/.click showed that openstore should be installed following my earlier attempts - although the app being invisible for me... So with dir command I found some files openstore* in /opt/click.ubuntu.com/.click/users/@gcinuse and /opt/click.ubuntu.com/.click/users/phablet which were invisible in filemanager-app althought show hidden files swich ticked. The files were removed with sudo rm -rf command, controlling the result with dir command. Before attempting to do a complete reinstall I did a rebooting (@Ian @iduboeuf, we discussed a similar problem with hidden files recently...) and - tadaaa - openstore-app was back again. Thank you a lot to all contributors!! I will switch the post to solved state. By the way, how can you hide files making them invisible for the filemanager

@evilgenius do you have a waydroid app-icon in the apps-drawer? You should try to start waydroid using that app. To make sure, everything is set up correctly before starting the app, execute in the terminal: sudo systemctl restart waydroid-container.service Maybe have a look, if container was startet successfully: sudo systemctl status waydroid-container.service Then launch the app.

@XPran You need to turn off the phone, and then boot with long push on "power" and "volume up" buttons at the same time, until you see a "Recovery Menu", then select the first option "Boot recovery", then connect it in USB to your computer and the installer should work fine. Select Ubuntu Touch 24.04, and sit back & relax while the installer is doing its job.

@stanwood said in bluetooth file transfer not working: There was an app before strange that an app could disappear like that, I tracked its source code here: https://github.com/floop2/ubtd it may be that its origin was unclear (there is no LICENSE file and the repo owner states that it was not an original work). So the release in the store under the GPL could have been invalid.

@klh Yeah, it still has some ways to go, but having it included in UT as a standard webview option for app developers would be awesome.

@ToxyPoxy Although it seems that calls could possibly make its way to Whatsapp web one day, which would be amazing, and then we will probably be able to support it inside the app. https://beebom.com/whatsapp-web-voice-and-video-calling-coming-soon/ https://3dvf.com/en/whatsapp-will-soon-allow-making-calls-directly-from-your-web-browser/
