@hlbkv gnome software can handle debs and flatpaks (and on Ubuntu also snaps I think). The app itself is a deb, so it is not surprising that it can be installed. The apps that end up being able to be installed with it are probably also debs.

Just an update, I gave up on trying the KDEConnect workaround. I did some deep investigation on resolving the issue within Waydroid itself, and documented my progress. It's definitely a feature-request in Waydroid. https://github.com/waydroid/waydroid/issues/211 I haven't done any more work on it for a while, since my last post on github. There are a few libs being used in Waydroid, which I linked to, which have sparse documentation. I don't have deep enough knowledge of these languages and platforms to be able to fix this easily - not to mention android's workflow for builds. Wasn't able to do a build of LineageOS on my PC; some incompatibility with package versions. It'd be nice to resolve this for everybody who uses Waydroid, but IRL is taking priority for now.

@trwidick doing agps is a big job, say it takes a few months and a single developer was capable to do it in that time (might be even bigger, but for this idea lets just say they implement something already available) so a 2 month job is at the very least a $10,000+ type of thing, throwing a $100 at various problems might sound ok but is nothing unless the developer is already doing these things for free. Developers that are working for free just work on things that motivate them.

I just tried out Anbox and it seems to be quite unstable for me. As using apps like Whatsapp is really needed for me I unfortunately will have to revert to Android so I will mark this question as fixed. However, I am quite impressed with Ubuntu Touch in general, keep up the good work! Once Anbox works reliably I might get back to it. Couple of observations: In order to install UB I had first to revert to the original FP3 OS link as I had installed LineageOS before As specified on the phone page, adb and camera did not work SMS and mobile data worked with custom APN for internet USB connection through USB hub to phone and keyboard works HDMI connection to a monitor did not work for me mirscreencast through ssh works but with big latency Anbox was quite unstable, Whatsapp booted on a black screen and Signal booted but I could not set it up

@zubozrout Oh I see, that's sad. Mine is now used just for a single app or purpose so it doesn't have much apps on it and I don't get the crashes. In fact, I love that it lasts about a week (without sim and wifi off)

Many thanks for the guidance and the warnings. And noted that the updates may/will over write whatever I have installed. I have 2 Nexus 5 phones. One has hardware issues but works as my Guinea Pig device for trying something new in uncharted waters for me.

It seems like it's a Oneplus devices issue. Couldn't find someone who managed to do this for sure even on Android with a Oneplus device. Thanks guys

@zubozrout It is but it's usually not recommended to use there especially if devel already has many changes compared to them. So it's safer when closer to an OTA release

@guibbv No problem I know that's not something easy to explain and even more if english is not your native language. So yeah this is the "new anbox" for halium9 This has not been officially released yet. To find more information on how to install I think you can check my previous link and read the thread for more context. But if I remember correctly they advise to join a telegram group in order to get better instructions on how to test this new version of anbox. Other instructions can be found on their git repository (sill if I remember correctly).

@applee @Kunai Kodi is available for SFOS, and source is available so porting it to Ubuntu Touch should at least be a possibility. https://openrepos.net/content/krnlyng/kodi It's nice, and it supported media formats that the default media player couldn't, as well as being SMB friendly so I could browse my home media collection in bed without waking up the kids by watching a movie in the living room on the repurposed PC kodi box/TV/stereo system. For my use case, a raspberry pi isn't really a good fit.
